Finally: my favourite travelling backpack!

As soon as I saw the preview of this backpack on Kickstarter, I fell in love with it! I already own a Prvk 21L and a Rogue Sling 9L and I love this Wandrd gear. So the backpack looked very promising. It fits as cabin luggage, but has an possible expansion if you need more space (i.e. for travelling by train, bus or car).It has multiple possibilities for using it: as a pure travelling backpack (35 of 45L incl. 5 liter expansion) or as a combination of travelling and photography backpack, by using a separately sold camera cube. It has tons of pockets, from small (Airtag pocket) to very big (the clamshell opening). And, of course, it has side access, a laptop/tablet sleeve, a pocket for all your papers, a hidden passport pocket, a sunglass pocket, a water bottle or tripod pocket and a rainfly pocket etc.The amount of pockets had one 'disadvantage' though: you have a lot of zippers. It takes some time to get used to them, so I marked both clamshell-zippers with the red bands with which Wandrd ties their tags to the bag. Gives a nice little contrast too.In the interior there is plenty of space on both sides of the clamshell parts. On one hand there are zippered mesh pockets for organizing smaller clothing or stuff. The big compartment is... big! You can use packing and camera cubes (sold separately by Wandrd) or use compression straps (loops are inside the big compartment) to keep your stuff in place. One minor disadvantage of the camera cube system is that it only secures on three sides: to the side access you use, to the opposite side and the bottom with velcros . The panel that folds behind the cube into the interior of the bag, so one top end, just sits loose. I tightened it to its place by using a band on two of the loops and folding the panel behind it. It just feels more secure when your valued camera gear sits stuck in its place... An advantage of the separate camera cube is that you can use it as a camera bag when you're at your destination. You don't have to carry the whole backpack with you.The materials appear to be of good quality: the (partially lockable) YKK-zippers seem sturdy and watertight. Also the fabric looks great on the bag. Time will tell how sturdy it is, but I've been using my Prvke around a year now and it still looks top!On the comfort side: this is a large backpack and fully loaded it's heavy. I'm 6"/ 1,84m tall and although the shoulder straps are comfortable, I would recommend to order the additional waist belt. Works fine on the Prvke and sure will do the same on the Transit backpack. Especially in combination with the sternum strap. Overall it's a multifunctional bag, with an nice size and a lot of packing possibilities. Definitely recommended for smaller trips when you're travelling with just one bag and want to bring your camera gear too.

I like the idea and it's almost perfect for what I need but I think it needs a camera cube redesign. Since it's no longer back opening clamshell the existing camera cubes are slightly awkward to use. To keep it opening on the non waterbottle side you have to flip it upside down from what it is in the prvke. Also since it isn't up against your back for opening, the gear moves around alot more, or you have to zip it up losing the extra velcro secure options to keep the cube in place. Maybe double zips would help so you could zip both sides down to the velcro on the bottom? Just my experience so far has made it slightly more annoying to use the camera cube in it's current state. Everything else is great so far.

Handle at bottom not comfortable against back. Otherwise it's a nice pack.

Packed with features, but very heavy

This backpack is a beast. It is packed with features and very thoughtfully designed. I got the 45L and it's truly maximum sized carry on. But, be aware, it is very heavy. With just the waist strap attachment and some empty packing cubes inside, my bathroom scale says it's 5.6 lbs. This, for my recent international trip with strict carry-on weight limit I went with a lighter weight but less fully featured bag instead. Still hoping this bag will work well for domestic trips.

Positives• love the backpack overall! The look is great. Not too many straps dangling everywhere and the front is clean looking. The 45l doesn’t look intrusive. • compartments and main storage is very usable. The top one is great and appreciate a water bottle spot. • love the expandability! It saved me in a trip. Concerns• one weak point concern is the top pocket where the load adjuster strap attach is putting all the weight on a zipper there. • the shoulder straps aren’t comfortable enough for heavy loads :( they work but could be so much better • the back padding is....lackluster. Would much rather trade better padding and ventilation for the ability to hide straps. Just use magnets or something to hold in place. • it’s pretty heavy feeling on its own. • waist straps don’t quite sit right in the hips and don’t feel like they take much load off compared to a similar weighted hiking pack. • the side entry isn’t worth it on this one. Perhaps one side only would be a bit better and make the pack stronger+ lighter
