Couldn't be Happier

I received the 60D as a college graduation present. I am an Advertising major with a passion for photography, and I work as a part-time wedding photographer. I have used the camera for wedding and engagement shoots as well as product photography, advertising projects, and family portraits. I could not be happier with the 60D's performance, speed, and quality. I LOVE this camera and would very highly recommend it.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Amazing Camera

I've seen numerous reviews badmouthing the 60D merely because it deviates from general characteristics associated with the xxD line of DSLRS (I.E: xxD's used to have magnesium alloy construction & lens micro-adjustment). And I will admit that it would be nice to have the superior build quality of a magnesium alloy body (although the 60D feels very durable while still being lightweight) and I personally wouldn't know the first thing about micro-adjustment, so the 60D's lack of it didn't daunt me. Basically; If you're looking for a 50D with a new sensor & processor, go for the 7D (although the 60D and 7D do share an almost identical 18MP CMOS sensor...)
However, if you want a lightweight, durable, ergonomic mid-range DSLR with fantastic image quality, go with the 60D. It feels much more comfortable to hold than a Rebel DSLR (due to it's larger size), but not much heavier (though still heavy enough to balance the weight of a relatively heavy lens). This camera is very comfortable to hold and my only complaint with having it on a shoulder/neck strap all day is that the strap supplied with the camera is terrible. I purchased an "OP-Tech pro-loop strap" to replace the stock one supplied by Canon, and would feel confident saying I could walk around for many hours with this camera (and a medium weight lens) around my neck.
When it comes to image quality, it depends on the lens you're using. However, even on the kit lenses I have (18-135 & 55-250), this camera takes very crisp images with great colour reproduction and low noise. You can confidently take images at ISO speeds of up and including 1600 without worrying about noise (although at that level, I would suggest noise reduction in post-production). I really haven't tried any ISOs above that level other than the "boost" ISO of 12800, at which the images, while still viewable, aren't print-quality.
The video quality is phenomenal. Even at adequately high ISOs, videos are cinema-quality. This camera lacks auto-focus during video (it does have it, but using it while recording really screws things up; it makes everything brighter for a moment while it unfocuses & refocuses). However, with a little practice, you can manually focus videos quickly and easily. Still, I wouldn't use this camera to record swiftly moving subjects.
The in-camera menus are very easy to navigate (even with the new control-pad that wasn't in previous cameras of the xxD line). After using the 40D once, I feel like the control pad is easier to use than the little joystick (that the 40D had). My only complaint about it is that unless you're looking at the screen, you won't be able to tell if something has happened due to the smoothness of the control pad (it would be nice if it "clicked" or something (not an electronic noise; the way the control wheel clicks as you rotate it).
The articulated LCD screen is very useful. I've used it when shooting over crowds (you can tilt the screen down and hold the camera above your head) and when shooting/recording yourself. There are two kinds of auto-focusing in live-view mode; live-view autofocus, and quick autofocus. For quick autofocus, the camera temporarily exits live-view mode to auto-focus as it would if you were using the viewfinder; quickly. Live view auto-focus is very slow and noisy. I mainly shoot through the viewfinder (not live-view mode), where the auto-focus is very fast and reliable.
Overall, I would recommend this camera to any photography enthusiast. It has great ergonomics, amazing image quality, and an awesome feature set.

Canon 60D - My first DSLR

This is my first DSLR. Somehow I happen to like Canon brand, so I preferred Canon for DSLR. I have seen and used Canon 550D for very short period and was about to buy the one. Then I came across 60D. Following are the reasons why I purchased 60D over 550D or 7D (maybe):
1. Kit lens is 18-135mm and telephoto one 55-250mm (So I got better package deal)
2. Very good battery life (Spec approx 1600 shots per recharge). I really need not purchase spare battery.
3. Articulated screen.
4. Frame rate of 5.3 fps.
5. Though it is not magnesium body, build quality is superb (You can feel it while using it).
6. Solid feel when held in hand
7. Very bright and clear LCD
8. Price compared to 7D or other brand in this category (Image and video quality is same or better).

Other common good points are image and video quality, lot of features. etc. I quickly got used to controls/menu, maybe because I had never used any other DSLR before. I cannot differentiate, but I love these controls now.
Following things I didn't like about camera:
1. Not able to zoom and focus duirng movie shooting as it captures lot of noise of lens. Auto focus is clearly visible on captured video. I am sure if USM lens could resolve this issue, but out of my budget at the moment.
2. Frame rate for continuous shooting could have been better (at least 7 fps)
3. I like 9-point cross type viewfinder screen, but sometime wish could have more points available. :)
4. Camera is pretty quiet, but HD video captures some camera noise. Issue should be resolved with the use of external mic.
5. Little heavy (better build??)

I have been wanting a Canon EOS DLSR camera for a year or longer. Until now, I have been a point and shoot photographer. Anytime, I was able to get a good shot, I would credit my success to luck and God. Now I can say that God has let me buy this camera so I won't need as much luck.
I purchased my EOS 60D at Best Buy with the 18-135mm Lens Kit. It is everything I expected it to be and more. It is quiet enough to capture candid shots of my children without giving away my intentions as well as taking brilliant pictures of animals in their natural habitat as long as I stay hidden they don't know I am there.
The instruction manual is easy to read and understand, which is a bonus itself. It takes time to read through the large amount of information, but there is something to learn on every page.
This camera may cost a lot of money, but if you are someone who enjoys taking pictures and showing them off, it is worth every cent.

Amazing product

I had purchased Canon Powershot few years back and I always had problems with the image quality. So, I wanted to upgrade to a DSLR. I didn't want to buy anything in the entry level or high level - I found this camera to be in the mid-range with the price that I can afford. Having a 3 year old daughter, I always take lots of pics.. the image quality is absolutely the BEST. My daughter and my wife love the pics a lot.
I'll definitely recommend this camera to anyone.

near perfect

After owning the Rebel 400 and 500 the 60D now fits my hand perfectly. I never use a tripod so with the Canon 70-200 L4 IS and a 1.4 telextender I wanted to keep my weight to a reasonable level. For this reason,Irrespective of cost, I decided against the 7D. [The flip screen and video are total non factors and will not be used.] High ISO gives me about another stop to play with. Battery reserve as a percentage is great. Just wish it shot 6.5 to 7.0 frames per second for my birding and college soccer shooting. No problem with not having magnesium but it would be nice if it were weatherproof.

I have owned three Canon SLR cameras. I am very pleased with the upgrades that I have gotten with each purchase. I still am learning the settings and the uses for all the controls. I have everything that I need to spend many years of a great hobby. I find that the Canon 60D gives me the chance to get the pictures that I have wanted my whole life. I started 15 years ago with the digital cameras. Canon has given me the chance to take it to another level. I hope that many more people will loiok into this camera for a purchase of a lifetime.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, this camera gives me all the control that i need.
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
