Super Rebel
on October 1, 2010

I have owned XXD and Rebel series cameras since the D30 (3MP) and original digital Rebel. I was looking forward to a replacement to my 50D but to be honest, I was so disappointed in the 60D I returned it after three days. The image quality is as good as it gets in this class, but the build and feature set are Rebel class.
In many ways, this was a downgrade from my 50D due to the plastic body, SD card slot, and absence of lens micro adjustment. Had this camera been sold as a T3i/600D, it would have been a perfect replacement for my XSI. But I need something more rugged for my part-time pro work.
The image quality is first-rate and I almost kept the camera just for the superb swivel screen. I hope Canon incorporates that feature on all of its new cameras.
This would be a good camera for the first-time DSLR buyer, but than so is the T2i at a substantial savings. In the end however, I just couldn't justify a Rebel series camera as a replacement for my rock solid 50D, so I returned the camera (at a 15% loss). What helped my decision was two days after I bought the camera, a competitor released a camera with 39-point AF system with 3D tracking and 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor, metal body, GPS compatible, twin memory card slots (though SD) - the camera the 60D should have been. Maybe when the 70D comes out?
Pros: superb swivel screen, great image quality, electronic level, wireless flash support
Cons: plastic body (boo!), no lens ma, sd card, new more expensive battery & grip

I've been a Canon SLR fan since the 70s when I bought my first AE-1 then A-1. I shoot mostly landscapes and nature to include macro (although don't own a macro lens yet) and I like shooting flying hawks.
The 60D provides many more features than the T1i and I especially like the 'C' setting which I have set for action shots (birds). I haven't gotten used to the location of the trash button but may someday. Other than that, the increased ISO offerings, the faster continuous shooting, the top display are all improvements I really like. BTW, I don't use the auto settings ever; either Tv or Av.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu

Should have magnesium body and better build qualit

I used this for 3 weeks and here is what I think. Overall the image quality is very good. High ISO settings also give good results. The 60D is a bit small for my hand. Plastic body makes it look like a cheap product. 50D has a much better build quality and it feel very nice in hand. Canon also should improve the old Focus system last since 40D. Should record movies in Stereo sound.
Pros: good image quality hd movie good lcd
Cons: plastic body use sd card slower frame rate

60D - SD Card Reader Issues
on June 2, 2014

I have used Canon SLR cameras for the last 20 years, upgrading about every 4 years to a newer model. My most recent purchase was the 60D. I love the ability to shoot video through this camera. I think the image quality is very good, but would like to have an auto focus feature when shooting video.
Like many others who have purchased the 60D, my camera is no longer working. The card reader stopped working. This is unacceptable given the price I paid and the associated expectations. After researching the issue over the internet I understand that this is a common problem.
