Being the previous owner of the Rebel XT that camera NEVER failed me so now after taking over 25,000 shots with that model it was time to upgrade to the 60D camera. After only owning for a few days I am already impressed with all of the features. I am anticipating many years of reliable useage from this camera as well. I am very pleased with my purchase. Now it's time to start taking some pictures!!

Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, easy to use

Okay, today I had a chance to walk around with this camera for a couple of hours, and I have to say lighter is better. I could actually carry in my bag a Wide-Angle and Portrait 85mm 1.2 Lens without any arm or shoulder fatigue. The Vari-Angle Screen help out with alot of over the head camera shots, while using LiveMode!! Not only great pictures, but great video clips made for a very interesting day full of pictures I couldn't take with a regular camera. I actually couldn't wait to get home to play with all the images and video!! If your a professional you might not use this camera, but then again if you are a professional you might want to consider it, because it packs a mighty punch!!! As long as you have the Right Lens, I don't see why this camera can't go all the way!!!!
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor build quality

Great camera for video and photo profesional

there is really not too much I can say bad about this camera just wish there was a few added futures. I am not a huge fan of in camera effects and never use them so why they cared to add these effects like toy camera effect is beyond me. I love the HD video but I wish they would up the video quality like the magic firmware hack did. It is entirely possible to make the video quality better on these cameras. honestly why not have it shoot 2k raw cine scope. that would be cool. this camera has really revolutionized the video and photography industry. sense I got this camera a few days ago I could not put it down. In fact I got a lovely case for it but I use this camera so much that I have given up trying to put it in the case. I have the canon xha1 and I have to say this is my new favorite toy. I have not really got in to photography in so long that I had forgotten how fun it was and this camera makes photography fun again. I have shot a lot of film over my life and I truly can say this adds a whole other level being that it is digital. especially with the digital zoom focus assist feature. I do have a light meter but its nice having a camera that you don't have to rely on it all the time. I absolutely love the swivel screen and despite the mesurebaters out there I actually like this camera over its big brother the canon 5D mk 2. It makes me feel like I am shooting on 16mm film. the thing I hate about this camera but can be easily fixed with a firmware update is the AEB for the lcd. I can't turn that off and so I could never see what the true image will be before I shoot in live mode. very frustrating. but then again traditional photographers never had a lcd screen. :P one thing they don't have on this camera is a way to listen to your audio while recording. why in gods name would you have video and audio recording and not be able to listen to your audio.
I know I am being picky but I really am not picking on the product but rather see room for improvement. Really canon is such a good company. some times I wish whey would keep up with consumer demands and make a FF video camera. if they can make these cameras FF DSLR cameras for under 3K I really don't see why they can't make a video camera with the FF sensor.
enough of my rant just take it from me its a good camera for the price and I do not regret buying it for a second.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Very good upgrade

Recently upgraded from S2IS, S5IS, SX20 and SX30 (still have all of them), for better quality landscape pictures. 60D came with 18-135 lens and I purchased a 100-400 L series. First pictures with L lens at 400 mm were disappointing but it turned out the old tripod is not steady enough. After correcting that, images are crisp and clear. The reason for selecting the 60D is the vari-angle screen which I am used to- could not live without it once you get used to it. This camera fits in my hand perfectly and grip is amazing. As far as the camera body made of non-metal is not a big deal. Would not want to go back to cars all made from metal either. Only feature that was a bit disappointing is I cannot display the histogram and the artificial horizon on the screen at the same time. Maybe in the next firmware release?
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

More than the camera

The other reviews tell what a great camera this is. I downloaded several RAW software demos to see if I could improve on Canon's DPP software supplied with the camera. DPP beat the "specialized" products hands down!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use

Excellent Starter DSLR for Serious Photographers

I am an avid fan of Canon and have owned Powershot S2 IS for the past 6 yrs and I must say this was a great step up DSLR for me. I am a pilot and love the lightweight and IS features of Canon over other brands. They simply are better. Along with the 67mm stock lens, all I needed was to purchase a wide-angle lens and a macro-lens to complete my kit. The LCD monitor is far superior and the buttons are just in right place for me. With a set of UV, Polarizer and Gradient filter and a lens hood, I am all set for landscape and macro photography. Well done Canon !!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

A first impression: Great camera
on March 6, 2011

I bought the 60D very recently, along with the 18-135 IS lens, and with one exception, I can say only good things about this camera. What follows is strictly an early impression, though it follows my extensive experience as a working photographer.
Great build quality, ergonomics, functioning. As a former professional portrait and news photographer, I wouldn't recommend this camera for heavy pro use, but it's all the camera most amateur photographers should ever need.
My only gripe: The small switch on the hot shoe that tells the camera whether there's a flash installed. Canon: Listen carefully and solve this problem!
This little switch sits under a thin metal spring tab on the right side of the hot shoe, and after I first installed and then removed a flash, the metal tab didn't spring back up far enough to allow the switch to reset. Thus, the camera thought there was a flash installed in the shoe when there wasn't, and this disabled the pop-up flash. The only fix was to use a tiny slotted screw driver tip, a magnifying glass, a flashlight and a deft hand to get the screw driver tip under the metal tab and slightly bend the tab so it wouldn't sit on the switch when no flash was installed. The pop-up flash now works as it should.
It was a frustrating thing that almost had me to the point of returning the camera for a replacement. Good thing I searched the Internet for a solution and found that other people had the same problem and the same solution.
Solve this problem Canon ... PLEASE.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, feels great in the hand, excellent lcd screen, controls are logical and fairly easy to use, nice array of different shooting modes
