Would you fly on a 787?

i purchased the 60d as a logical upgrade for my t2i. Logical because i own the 15-85, 70-300 and 85 1.8 canon lenses. Much of my shooting since the upgrade has been focused on me two year old granddaughter and her very active cousins. All I can say is that the upgrade has certainly exceeded my expectations.
Not a lot of photo quality difference betwwnthe 60d and the t2i. I do feel that the 60d may focus a little faster - very important when trying to capture a couple of very active kids. I would consider the 15-85 lens to be my primary use lens and it is an amazing combination with the 60d - super fast focus and tack sharp photos!
Three issues that seem to come up in many reviews - feel and handling, build quality and micro focus. I certainly agree that the feel and handling charteristics of the 60d are a big improvement for me. Build qualiy feels great to me - a big step up over the t2i. The complaint seems to be plastic/composite material vs. metal - would those that complain about this issue fly on thr new composite built Boeing 787? As for micro focus, with my Canon lenses I have not found the need for any more detailed focus provided bt the auto focus system provived by the camera lens combos.
Pros: super picture quality, camera speed, build quality and feel

Why should I upgrade to a 7D Mark II?
on November 23, 2014

I started out my Canon camera purchases with point and shoot models when digital cameras first came on the scene. My first DSLR was a Canon xsi. I really feel in love with that camera and shot many thousands of shots without a problem. Many of them turned out so well I entered several in contests and they at least got published.
Now I was a committed Canon fanatic with my EF compliment of lens, I decided to upgrade to a 60D. I have had this camera now for about three years and have shot thousands of photos with it. I just love this camera! The quality of the photos I take, even cropped and brought into LR and PS are simply amazing.
I am now in a position to upgrade to one of the newer Canon models. As a member of Kelby One when I saw Scott Kelby review the Canon 7D Mark II, I almost bit the bullet and decided to purchase one for myself for Christmas. I liked how all of my lenses would fit the camera body and the fast shutter speed and low light performance almost got me hooked. Then I started getting more serious about the purchase by looking at the features of my 60D vs the new 7D Mark II. First of all, I didn't like the fact the 7D doesn't have an articulating monitor screen. Next I didn't think I really needed that much more speed in burst mode vs my 60D that I have found very acceptable. Lastly, I know it must be great to be able to shoot without noise in the much higher ISO setting with the 7D, but is it really worth me to upgrade at this time.
The final conclusion is my decision to stay put with my trusty old 60D and perhaps put my money into a couple more lenses. I really wish at least Canon had put the articulating monitor screen on the new 7D Mark II. I use mine a lot, especially when I shoot video and get in a position when the camera fixed screen just isn't going to allow me to see my shot.

IS is exceptional!

I bought this camera with the 18-200 IS lens. While taking some water shots with slow shutter speed, everyone told me no way I could take them without a tripod. Well, they were wrong. I was able to get exceptional water shots using a slow shutter speed (1/5) and everything was in focus except the great movement of the water.
Additionally, I am thrilled with the picture quality of the camera.

Great camera for video and photo profesional

there is really not too much I can say bad about this camera just wish there was a few added futures. I am not a huge fan of in camera effects and never use them so why they cared to add these effects like toy camera effect is beyond me. I love the HD video but I wish they would up the video quality like the magic firmware hack did. It is entirely possible to make the video quality better on these cameras. honestly why not have it shoot 2k raw cine scope. that would be cool. this camera has really revolutionized the video and photography industry. sense I got this camera a few days ago I could not put it down. In fact I got a lovely case for it but I use this camera so much that I have given up trying to put it in the case. I have the canon xha1 and I have to say this is my new favorite toy. I have not really got in to photography in so long that I had forgotten how fun it was and this camera makes photography fun again. I have shot a lot of film over my life and I truly can say this adds a whole other level being that it is digital. especially with the digital zoom focus assist feature. I do have a light meter but its nice having a camera that you don't have to rely on it all the time. I absolutely love the swivel screen and despite the mesurebaters out there I actually like this camera over its big brother the canon 5D mk 2. It makes me feel like I am shooting on 16mm film. the thing I hate about this camera but can be easily fixed with a firmware update is the AEB for the lcd. I can't turn that off and so I could never see what the true image will be before I shoot in live mode. very frustrating. but then again traditional photographers never had a lcd screen. :P one thing they don't have on this camera is a way to listen to your audio while recording. why in gods name would you have video and audio recording and not be able to listen to your audio.
I know I am being picky but I really am not picking on the product but rather see room for improvement. Really canon is such a good company. some times I wish whey would keep up with consumer demands and make a FF video camera. if they can make these cameras FF DSLR cameras for under 3K I really don't see why they can't make a video camera with the FF sensor.
enough of my rant just take it from me its a good camera for the price and I do not regret buying it for a second.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great camera!

I purchased this camera back in Dec '10. I wasn't really looking for something that has this many user features - I was looking @ the T2i since I am a beginner photographer.
Body/Handling: When I went to my local photography shop and was handling both camera's (60D & T2i) I absolutely loved the feel and handling of the 60D. I have relatively small hands and they seemed too big for the T2i. The 60D has a sturdy build to it and allows you to be a little rough with the camera without it feeling like the body will crack or break. I am not saying that I treat my camera badly, but every once in a while it WILL bang up against something and I don't worry that the body will damage. With as much hikin and camping as our family does, I really like that the camera is dust & water resistant. Again, this doesn't mean that I take the camera in extremely wet or dusty conditions for a long period of time - I simply use it for the weekend trips to Moab where we'll be hiking in the Arches or Zions and a little dust might get kicked up from time to time, or an afternoon sprinkle might appear and it's nice to know that my camera is protected to an extent.
Options: WOW! I am so glad that I have more control over my camera than with the T2i. Althought the 60D sits in between the 7D and the T2i, it allows my nearly 100% more control over my manual settings. I love the rotating dial to flip through my pics or menu (Q button). One of the greatest features is the swiveling LCD screen. I recently shot a 6min video with the camera and had I not had the swivel screen, I wouldn't have acheived many of the angles or frames that I got. Not to mention that it protects the screen when the camera is stored away.
Internals: Although the line up from T2i thru 7D all share the same image senor (and size @ 18pixels), I thoroughly enjoy the burst rate of 5+fps. The pentaprism mirror in the viewfinder allows for better manual focus points.
Photography features: The burst of up to 1/8000 for a max shutter speed is awesome - I've used it a few times from some hockey games. It's not a feature that is used too often though, but it's nice to have when you need it.
A couple other wonderful features are the ability's to use wireless flash and shutter. I've taken some family photos with a 4 & 6yr olds and had I needed to set the timer for 10sec we would have NEVER gotten the absolute best family portrait that was taken.
I guess that is all I can review on the camera/body and in concluding this review I would buy this camera again if I had to. The 4 stars on the price/value was because I bought it fairly new on the market and thought it was highly priced (at the time).
Good luck with your camera purchase (where ever you buy or whatever you buy)!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: being too heavy is not a con. it relates to the, superior build and quality of the body

Great Camera

Better than I expected, and better than the "specs" show.
This camera is very nicely done. Great build quality, and that is the first thing that commanded my attention. Pictures are sharp and the camera seems responsive and relatively fast.
Pros: picture quality, lcd screen, in camera menu options, in camera raw processing, size and weight handling, control layout
Cons: would have liked same fps as 50d

As a wedding photograher this cam is a great fit, fast focussing on the go. great quality pictures even in low light, location of controls on the camera all make me not miss that perfect shot. Little on the heavy side when carring around for a while but its just a reminder of less plastic parts... The ability to shoot HD video helps me create great slide shows with small video clips as well all with the same cam in hand.. I keep a 20d backup incase of failure on set but dont think ill need it...
Thanks once again canon for another great product..
