After having several digital cameras using lenses that start with N (my first digital camera used that lens mount) I am delighted to be back with Canon. This is really a good camera. I have used it for over three years now after having used a Hasselblad in the camera room for thirty years. This little jewel of a camera delivers very sharp photographs of both portrait and advertising subjects for me day after day, month after month. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Perhaps its most useful feature is one that is unique to this camera, at least it was, is its articulating screen. In a professional environment, where I photograph people, I often have people who want to see the screen. All I do is turn it around backwards, so it is out of view, and the question never comes up. Other than that I have used it to photograph the landscape, my passion, as well as limited wildlife and it performs with excellence. I often make prints to 24x30 and even 30x40 and they hold together very well. It is an excellent choice.
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, articulating screen

Excellent for Video

I am a film director and just bought this camera to shoot a commercial for a VERY large and well known car company. We made the decision to shoot on Canon DSLR's not only for budget reasons, but for the amazing quality of HD video they can deliver in an extremely small, portable package. I started testing 7D's and 5DMKII's earlier this year, and when this commercial came up, it took me a long, long time to finally decide on which camera to buy for myself to use on this and many other future projects. I'm used to shooting on 35mm film and high end digital cinema cameras, and overall image quality is very important to me. After an internal struggle pulling me towards the 5DMKII for the larger sensor and all the benefits that come with it, I ended up choosing the 60D mainly for the articulating LCD screen, and MAN did I make the right choice! We shot with 1 5DMKII, 3 7D's, 1 T2i and my new 60D, and even though the 5DMKII has the bigger sensor and the 7D's have dual processors, more than HALF the shots in the final commercial came from my new 60D! The LCD made it possible for me to operate shots that I would never have gotten as smoothly on the other cameras, and I'm not just talking about extreme low or high angles. What finally made me thrilled with my choice is that you can barely tell the difference between the 60D and the "better" cameras in the finished commercial, which still amazes me. I've taken some stills with it as well, and they look great to my very picky eye. If you are looking for a DSLR for high end video in a small package, I would STRONGLY recommend the 60D.
Pros: excellent video
Cons: wish slow motion could be in 1080p!

I rented the 7D & the 60D to test before buying one & the 60D sold me. At a weeding shoot both cameras did very good but I fell in love with the 60, i sold my Rebel T2i & bought the 60d. The 60d body construction is a lot sturdier and a solid build like the 7/5D not the plastic style of the Rebels & the battery life is a lot better to. Photo quality is determined by the user & the lens, but with all of my lenses my photo quality is better than with my T2i... Nice
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Bought this camera to upgrade from a Rebel XSi, and boy what a surprise. Camera is super fast, and pictures are pristine. The top display is really convenient, and the new camera software works great for frequently accessed menus and sub-menus.
Would deffinetly recommend as an upgrade over the T4i.
Have not used the Video portion of it, since Im not interested in this feature.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: none

Canon 60D - My first DSLR
on December 24, 2010

This is my first DSLR. Somehow I happen to like Canon brand, so I preferred Canon for DSLR. I have seen and used Canon 550D for very short period and was about to buy the one. Then I came across 60D. Following are the reasons why I purchased 60D over 550D or 7D (maybe): 1. Kit lens is 18-135mm and telephoto one 55-250mm (So I got better package deal) 2. Very good battery life (Spec approx 1600 shots per recharge). I really need not purchase spare battery. 3. Articulated screen. 4. Frame rate of 5.3 fps. 5. Though it is not magnesium body, build quality is superb (You can feel it while using it). 6. Solid feel when held in hand 7. Very bright and clear LCD 8. Price compared to 7D or other brand in this category (Image and video quality is same or better).
Other common good points are image and video quality, lot of features. etc. I quickly got used to controls/menu, maybe because I had never used any other DSLR before. I cannot differentiate, but I love these controls now.
Following things I didn't like about camera: 1. Not able to zoom and focus duirng movie shooting as it captures lot of noise of lens. Auto focus is clearly visible on captured video. I am sure if USM lens could resolve this issue, but out of my budget at the moment. 2. Frame rate for continuous shooting could have been better (at least 7 fps) 3. I like 9-point cross type viewfinder screen, but sometime wish could have more points available. :) 4. Camera is pretty quiet, but HD video captures some camera noise. Issue should be resolved with the use of external mic. 5. Little heavy (better build??)
Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase (price/value combination). I have learned a lot of things while using this camera (of course I had to go through lots of online material) and have been taking lots of pictures and experimenting with them.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great upgrade from Rebel class
on October 2, 2010

Learned the ropes with one of the first Rebel versions that came out years ago and still use it today, make money with it and win contests with it. This is the best upgrade above the Rebel series if you don't have the budget for a 7D. Yes, the body is plastic, but it is a heavier duty plastic than the rebels, and if your that much of a pro to need a metal body then you'd be buying a 7D or Mark series anyway...the video is fantastic, flip screen is fantastic - much sturdier than I expected and it turns to face the camera when not in use so screen should last much longer than one that is always exposed. High iso quality is outstanding. Button display and re-design is great - 2 of my friends have 50D's and they love the new design. Only cons I see are no auto-focus on the video, and no metal body - but I've fallen w/my Rebel mountain hiking and didn't hurt that so...Don't abuse your equipment and it won't break...If you have a 50D - upgrade to a higher class- the 7D or higher, unless your just dying to have video. This is basically a hard plastic body 50D with video and new intuitive button layout. Its a great upgrade for lower end Rebel users. If you have a T1 or T2, think about holding out for a 7D unless you just need the higher shutter speed or video.
Pros: fast shutter speed, good feel, large tilt screen, amazing clarity, re-designed
Cons: (hard) plastic body, manual focus video

Solid camera, great features

If you want seriously good, pictures, get a seriously, good, camera. The versatility and capabilities of the 60d come at a very good price point for the serious amateur photographer Now with video recordings ability another deletion is added. Battery life is great'(as long as you are not shooting a lot of video). You can take the camera on a 2 week or more vacation and shoot hundreds of pictures without needin g a recharge. All the aperture and shutter adjusting you need. Large review LCD screen. ( get a plastic protector to avoid scratches ). It is very fast. So while the point and shoot cameras are processing the image you can take 2 or 3 more shots. You will not be disappointed . It is not the super high end that will set you back a lot more money it will rapidly, become your,"Go to" camera
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
