Constant False Alarms

My front door keeps going off with false alerts all the time. It is better than nothing, but after doing the Motion Wizard and setting the sensitivity all the way down, I get several false alerts a day.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi GJTX,
Thank you for bringing your motion detection concerns to our attention. We know how important it is to capture only the motion events that are relevant to you. The Ring Video Doorbell - (2020 Release) should deliver accurate motion detection, so you can trust your motion events. Rest assured, we are here to help find a solution.
If your device is located in a high traffic area, try out our new Customizable Motion Zones to eliminate motion detection in areas you do not want monitored. Customizable Motion Zones will allow you to draw different shapes that are more dynamic than Adjustable Motion Zones. You can add up to three different Motion Zones. The following steps will walk you through setting up a Customizable Motion Zone on your device:
- Tap the three lines on the top left of the screen. - Tap Devices. - Select the battery device that you want to adjust. - Once you’re on the screen with the image of your device, tap Motion Settings. - Then tap Motion Zones. - Tap Customize Motion Zones and then Continue. - Use the slider to adjust motion sensitivity from minimum to maximum sensitivity.
Once you've customized your motion settings with this form of motion detection, you should notice a reduced amount of false motion events.
If you still have concerns regarding this, we would love to hear from you directly on our Ring Community forum. This is a platform intended for Ring users, just like yourself, to create open discussions regarding their Ring experiences, provide suggestions or feedback, and more: https://community.ring.com/.

Although you can use the battery feature, get it hardwired....They have plug in transformers so you don't have to wire it to your main power box.

Hello CL23,
We know how important it is to have a steady internet connection to your Ring devices for peace of mind. Once installed, your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) should remain connected to a stable wifi connection. Our team is here to help you find a solution.
Should a wifi problem arise, you can use the Device Health feature in the Ring app to learn more.
- Open the Ring app, then select the menu in the upper left-hand corner. - Select the Devices tab. - Tap on your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release).
From the menu tiles below, please select Device Health. Here, you'll see your RSSI, which is an indication of your network signal strength. To learn more about RSSI, please visit the support article:
Also within the Device Health section is your Network Name. Please ensure that the network your camera is connected is one of your wifi extenders. If not, this means your camera isn't using the extender, and you'll need to switch it over. Use the Change Wifi Network feature to do so. The below article will teach you how:
Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

Black screen

I dislike the fact that some captured motions are either black screen or it lags. Sounds are sometimes distorted or robotic for both of my spotlight camera and doorbell. Keep in mind, I have a WiFi extender and a high speed ultimate package.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello hmb702,
Thank you for bringing your video concerns to our attention. We know how important it is to rely on a clear image every time your device captures video for you. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is intended to deliver up to 1080p HD video for a clear shot every time. Rest assured, we're here to help you find a solution.
If you are experiencing a black screen when viewing live or recorded video in the Ring App, the problem may be related to settings in your router, firewall, or because of data loss.
Before going any further, we recommend that you reboot your router. Today's routers handle a lot of information, and can benefit from the occasion reboot. You should only need to power it down for 1 minute. After your network comes back online, our Ring devices will reconnect and should work as intended.
Otherwise, we've written a comprehensive article that walks you through the most common causes and solutions to this concern. Please visit the link below to learn more.
We would love to know if this resolves your concern, and ask that you share your experience with us on our Ring Community forum, here: https://community.ring.com/.
Regards, Marlom at Ring
