Never and I mean never wash your waffle maker. After the 1st use simply brush with a soft brush and then follow by using a paper towel. Waffles get better with each use.

The dishwasher safe plates are a godsend! So far I have made waffles, pancakes & sunny side up breakfast sandwiches with sausage & eggs (cooked in the pancake plate).
The alert is loud enough without becoming obnoxious. The food cooks evenly & relatively “fast”. My prior double Belgian waffle maker was quicker, but also very messy &/or hard to clean. I love that I can make a bunch at one time!
The plates are a little tricky initially to put in & switch out, but I have it down now. Don’t skip the included recipes, they’re good!

If the plates were more interchangeable it would be more useful. As it is you cannot use the flat plate on the bottom. If this wasn’t a gift I would definitely return it. I love Cuisinart products but not this one.

So far I have been very disappointed in this waffle maker. It takes a long time to heat up and then it doesn't stay hot. The waffles made up to this point have been too light (seriously blonde) and even to get to that point it takes 10 minutes or more. This is not what I expected from a Cuisinart product.

I had bought my first waffle iron, and loved it. But it made snowflake shaped waffles, and it was impossible to clean. So I started the hunt for a reliable waffle maker with removable, dishwasher safe plates. This one fit the bill. I've made waffles with it 3 weekends so far, and absolutely love it! It takes about 10 minutes to heat up, but once it's hot, the waffles themselves take 5 minutes to come out golden brown! And the plates are incredibly easy to pop in and out, and come out of the dishwasher totally clean. It beeps to tell you when it's warm enough to cook your waffles, and beeps when your waffles are done, based on the level of brownness you select. And then, to finish up, it stores vertically, so that it takes way less cupboard space! Really, quite perfect.
