An Absolute Powerhouse for Sports & Gaming!

I’ll be honest: I was looking for a massive screen without the 'massive' OLED price tag, and this 85" TCL QM6K from Best Buy exceeded every expectation. If you’re on the fence about going this big, just take my word for it: the immersion is unreal.
I have always been (and still am to a certain degree) a Sony Guy. my 2007 Sony Bravia 55" LCD is still a workhorse in the house. Even at 1080p, the picture is fantastic. But if I wanted to buy a Sony 85" today, I would be looking at spending at least $2,600+ for the basic model. I had purchased a 2019 TCL 6 Series from Best Buy and it has been an amazing TV, so I did my research on TCL and found that the QM6K Series fit my budget and my needs!
The build quality is great - solid materials, easy to assemble, super thin bezel, and a matte finish screen (cuts down on light reflection tremendously!). The speakers are decent for normal use, though I connected my Denon 7.1 Receiver to the eARC HDMI and instantly synced up my speakers. I was amazed at how light it is (relatively speaking for an 85" TV) - no need to strengthen up my TV bench! Unpacking was simple and they provide plenty of nitto to protect every visible surface. Set up was very easy and intuitive - the Google Smart TV App provides everything you need to have a competent smart TV experience. Within 15 minutes my credentials were all in and my familiar Google space was intact. Super simple!
The remote is bare bones, but has enough to sustain proper functionality. I especially love the microphone (I don't have a cable box, strictly all streaming). It really makes navigating around the Google-verse plain and simple! Calibrating the TV was great as well and was easy to perform. Now, onto the heavy hitting!
The Sports Experience:
As a huge sports fan, motion clarity is everything to me. Thanks to the 144Hz native refresh rate and the AIPQ Pro Processor, fast-moving action—like a deep pass in football or a fast break in basketball—is buttery smooth with zero motion blur. The Mini-LED backlighting provides incredible brightness, meaning even with my blinds open during a Sunday afternoon game, the picture is punchy and the colors (thanks to the QLED tech) are vivid and lifelike. Watching the Raptors is at a whole new level! Watching a golf tourney almost feels like I am there! The 85" screen is so immersive, it's eye watering! Colour gamut is incredible and blacks are very inky. Now, compared to a true OLED TV, I feel that an OLED still has the upper hand (due to slightly higher brightness levels), but that's more than double the price - something I didn't feel justified spending with today's technology. The QM6 Series TV is perfect for my viewing! The picture quality is incredible!

Next-Level Gaming:
Gaming on this thing is where it truly becomes a different animal. I’ve hooked up my consoles - Xbox Series X, PS5 and Switch - and with HDMI 2.1 and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, the responsiveness is instant. It features a Game Accelerator that can push up to 240Hz at lower resolutions, which is a total game-changer for competitive shooters. The low input lag makes everything feel tight and snappy—you honestly forget you’re playing on a TV this large. When playing any of my Racing games, the picture quality is fabulous - no motion blur and each detail is pristine, even the environments look so sharp and detailed! Even the Switch 2 looks incredible on this TV - playing Hades 2 or MarioKart on the QM6K is eye candy!
Gaming on this thing is where it truly becomes a different animal. Movies (Streaming): I have Netflix HD and the picture quality is truly remarkable. Just like sports/gaming, the colour gamut is crazy good, motion is so lifelike and the overall experience, whether it's a movie or a TV series, is outstanding. I can only imagine what an Ultra HD Blu-ray would look like, however I do not own any Ultra HD right now. Maybe one day if the movie is worth watching over and over. But for now, streaming is incredible, take my word for it!
Final Verdict:
Between the deep blacks of the local dimming zones and the sheer scale of the 85-inch panel, my basement room has basically become a mini-stadium. Best Buy’s pricing was spot on, and for the price-to-performance ratio, you won't find a better 'big screen' experience. If you want to feel like you’re actually in the game, this is the one! There is a reason why Sony is relying on TCL to build all of their future TVs - TCL just does it right and at an amazing price point. Honestly, this has been an amazing investment and I look forward every night to be able to watch/play on my QM6K 85" TV!
