Very simple to change from original thermostat that was 6 years old. Ease of installation, use and value of the upgrade are really unmatched. If you have’nt considered getting one, get one, you won’t regret it.

Absolutely love it so far! I received this as a wedding gift several months ago and finally set it up yesterday. Set up was super easy! I used a YouTube video from Nest.com since I’m a visual learner and it was super easy. Anyone can do it. The app is easy to use and connect to Nest device. Highly recommend!

Hit or Miss reliability

I own two of these thermostats one downstairs one upstairs. The downstairs unit works fine but the upstairs has issues. Out of the box it worked but then the wifi capability stopped. I contacted Nest support and went through the recommended steps but no improvement. I did the advanced replacement option and they sent me a replacement head unit. The battery was dead upon arrival so it was installed and allowed to charge. Two days later the thermostat was programmed but continued to reset every few minutes. This came at the worst time due to single digit temperature outside. I contacted support they had me change the wiring which broke the heating and air. I returned the wiring and placed the original unit and it worked as it did just no wifi. The support tech told me I would have to pay for a Nest Pro to get any further support. I returned the replacement unit and doing without the wifi so basically it is an expensive standard thermostat. I will not ever buy another Nest Google product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nest thermostats are designed to be able to work efficiently without the need of a power or common (C) wire when the heating and cooling wires of your system can deliver enough power to keep the thermostat's battery charged up. However, some heating/cooling wires can't deliver adequate power to one or more Nest thermostats. In such cases, Nest thermostats need a common (C) wire that goes into the C terminal of the thermostat base. The next best step would be to contact a Nest Pro technician to check your system and install a common (C) wire if needed.
