Support on wrong side

My unit was roaring and I checked filter, which I had replaced not too long ago. It was very hard to remove and was sucked up against fan. It was installed according to arrow, but the support was on the bottom side, not top to protect from fan. I changed filter and reversed direction. Will replace with another brand and style that fits and supports filter correctly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello. 3M has made a change to our Basic, MPR 300, MPR 600 & MPR 800 Filtrete Air Filters. The look of the filter may appear to now be backwards from what you have seen in the past. The new design will use polypropylene strands to support the pleats and are placed on the upstream side of the filter. The older design used expanded metal mesh and was placed on the down stream side of the filter. You will still want to follow the direction of the arrows on these filters when installing into your unit. Not sized correctly

The Ace brand filter I was replacing dropped right out, no problem. I could not wedge this new filter in place, try as I might. Eventually bent it and taped around the now warped edges. How many different ways are there to measure filter size? Spoiler alert: there are two, correctly and incorrectly. 3M uses the latter method.

Only Last a Couple Weeks

We were recommended by our HVAC guy to use a lower MERV count which led us to purchasing these filters. We’ve been using this style for a little over a year at this point. They seem to only last 1-2 weeks before they start whistling and we usually give in around week 3 and replace them because they are so loud. I just don’t think the structure of this particular filter is strong enough.

Backwards arrow

Wondered why it took so long to warm the house and seemed to cycle more than usual then this morning it cycled way too often and would not warm the house. Finally realized the arrow for air direction they printed on filter appears to be backwards because the point of arrow is on side without the extra netting that goes on the blower side. I can only hope no damage was done and it already cost me an unnecessary service call.

Works Great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I prefer to use an HVAC air filter with a relatively low MERV rating, so as to avoid putting extra strain on the air-handling system. And low-cost fiberglass filters simply do not do an adequate job of removing dust from the air in my home. Filtrete's Clean Living filters are just right for me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Support screen on the WRONG SIDE when I bought the 300 last year. I installed it MY way , worked great This year the support strands are on the CORRECT SIDE. You fixed the problem. Now tell people the truth.

Mrp 300 is a good choice.

I just bought the mrp 300 because I wanted some air/dust filtration combined with optimal air flow draw from our furnace blower minimizing electrical draw to help keep our high efficiency furnace functioning properly to reduce our electric bill. Contrary to higher mrp rated filters that blowers weren't designed to draw air through causing our blowing to draw more wattage. So far the filter seems to be filtering/functioning as expected.
