Torque, Power, and Easy Handling, a Must-Have Tool

Torque, power even with small batteries, and easy handling, this is a must-have tool for any tow truck, law enforcement, service vehicle, road trip vehicle, and any person who is prepared to help others.
Torque on torque on torque, this makes wheel lugs easy to remove, so much so that I nearly did all my vehicles just because it was so fun.
I used a small battery to keep weight down, but I tried it with a monster battery just because I could. The 2.0 ah battery I used is over five years old, and it drove this tool just fine and kept the weight down.
This impact wrench needs to be standard-issue for any first responder, tow truck driver, roadside assistance tech, prepared individual, etc. This lives in my vehicle full-time now, with a set of impact sockets for the main lug nut sizes. It will come with us in the family vehicle when we road trip from AZ to MT and back.
With as easy as it was to pull the lug nuts off my regular light vehicle, I have no doubt it would work on my International medium duty truck.
I’ve wanted this tool for a long time–last year I had to change the tire on my box trailer that had been parked in a friend’s field for a year. He grabbed his DeWALT ½” impact and made quick work of the lug nuts and got me out of there for a tire replacement in about two minutes. I was blown away, especially because I’m no slouch with a crossbar. I had no idea I NEEDED one of these until I saw an older version in action. This new mid-range impact is much smaller than his older unit, and easier to handle. This is the perfect impact wrench for most of us.

Can’t ask for a better tool

I recently refinished a trailer, and this tool took off rusted lug nuts so easily. With the “lug nut” feature it even governed the speed. Amazing.

Impressive! Precision Wrench is a game-changer!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm generally the type of guy that you'd see in his driveway kicking a tire iron as it's attached to the wheel of one of my vehicles, trying to remove an over-tightened lug nut that was improperly installed by a local oil change shop. Because of this, I've experience multiple minor injuries to my feet and shins, as well as a damaged lug nut or two. Unfortunately for me, my newest vehicle has a much higher torque spec than my older, much lighter vehicle had.
So when I decided it was time to perform routine maintenance on my wife’s EV and clean/lubricate her calipers, I thankfully had the opportunity to use my new DeWalt 20V MAX XR Mid-Range Impact Wrench. This hefty impact wrench has a LOT of power! It has the same alluring design as my other DeWalt tools, and I know it’s an often used trope, but you just know you’re holding a quality tool the moment you pick it up.
Another benefit that I didn’t know existed at the time was what DeWalt calls their “Precision Wrench” feature. This feature is sort of an “automatic” mode on the wrench that will give a short pause to the action the moment it feels some resistance when tightening (judging from my probably out-of-spec torque wrench, this was around 30-40 lb. ft). This really gave me the peace-of-mind that I wouldn’t accidentally over-torque a lug nut and break something in the process. It also works in the reverse to regulate the speed so that you don’t send a nut flying in a random direction.
Another terrific feature with this impact wrench is the inclusion of the Hog Ring Anvil. This allows the mechanic to quickly switch sockets without the use of a tool. In my opinion, this is a must-have feature for any mechanic, professional or not. It worked great for when I had to switch to my torque wrench as I don’t have an extra set of impact sockets lying around.
In addition to these features, the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Mid-Range Impact Wrench has very clear and easy to read settings on the base of the tool. The LED built into the wrench has 3 modes: off, low brightness, and high brightness. It also has a variable speed trigger and 3 distinct speed settings that are independent of the “Precision Wrench” feature I mentioned beforehand.
I’ve always felt that DeWalt has a “buy-it-for-life” quality that can’t be matched by most other tool manufacturers, and this new impact wrench only builds on that ideal. I am thoroughly impressed by it’s quality and feature-set. I highly recommend the DeWalt 20V Max CR Mid-Range Impact Wrench to the home-mechanic, and professional alike!

Awesome impact. Tons of power, small size

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Awesome impact. Way stronger then the older dcf894 in the same exact size so just go and get this 1 and forget about the old model. This gets done what the old dcf899 high torque in a smaller footprint. Use it all the time and driving and removing 5/8" and 3/4" wedge and screw anchors. The new digital speed selector is a nice touch too. Works good and never accidentally switches modes like every milwaukee ive ever used.

Compare to my older 894, this 891 handles my truck lug nuts with ease! It is a great if not a must for any type of car repair or any overtorqued application! This should be their product of the year! I'm very pleased with the power and the weight!

Mighty and compact 1/2" impact

A little iffy on the button selectors seems like they could wear out over time. All in all still a great tool!

small gun with big power!

First off I just want to say I've been using DeWalt 20 volt tools since I started working at the age of 13 with my father. They always outperform with their power tools. This mid range 1/2" impact is extremely powerful but very delicate at the same time. It will break away stuck bolts and nuts with ease but without damaging what's being removed or removed from. It's very quiet decently lightweight and compact. It's a great choice for a diy type of person who works on they're own vehicle or friends vehicle or diy construction or for the pros and contractors, mechanics, automotive technicians. It's a just a beast and a absolute must have in the garage or at work.
