Sorry but I have to return this machine

I finally spent my Saturday morning making a decision as to return this unit after struggling with no creama from my shots ground at 4 different settings over the past 2 months. Now I see that my Cuisinart DBM-8, grinder doesn't grind a fine enough grade for this machine. Although, my old Breville 800 ESXL; which I have used for years always gave me a nice creama from grounds from the same Cuisinart grinder. I compared the pre-ground coffee expresso vs my Cusinart finely fresh ground expresso. The coffee ran through much too fast with the freshly ground expresso and I never got much creama. The pre-ground expresso took longer to express and gave me a nice creama. Which means I'd have to only use pre-ground beans with this unit or buy another coffee grinder. I prefer to freshly grind my beans. Also, I believe I tamp with enough recommended pressure, but the puck was inconsistent after several attempts when using the freshly ground beans. Finally, I was fortunate enough to get the bonus purchase which included the milk dispenser. Unfortunately, it takes too many extra steps to clean it for the limited amount of froth it yielded. And using the manual steam wand didn't give me much froth and I think it scorched the milk. I love my KitchenAid appliances, but with only 2 days left to return it to the store, we are going to have to depart company.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

From Coffee Machine to Espresso Machine

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Emphasis on Coffee
Short story; pretty good coffee machine. KitchenAid provides a complete package of high quality accessories that wouldn’t leave anyone wanting for brewing coffee. Regarding Espresso, it’s another matter. An item or 2 is required and or replaced in addition to patience and technique in order to pull a shot of tasty expresso.
In the Beginning
I've owned various Espresso machines. Moka Pot, Super-automatic leading to purchasing a Prosumer espresso machine and Grinder. It was the Prosumer machine where I learned how to pull a decent shot of espresso. Nowadays I had a very inexpensive espresso machine. Which has been set aside for the KitchenAid.
Accessories Accessories
Of all the machines that I’ve owned, out of the box, the KES640BM includes everything required to make coffee straightaway. All of items illuminates KitchenAid’s attention to detail as well as their Industrial Design prowess. For example, the machine features a detachable Streaming Wand with the inclusion of a Stainless Steel Milk Pitcher and an Automatic Milk Frothier. Both Pressurized and Non-pressurized Filter Baskets are provided. Its Commercial Size 58mm Portafilter is aesthetically beautiful.
Steam Heat
Like every other espresso machine that I’ve owned, despite the manufacturer’s claims of quickly reaching temperature, the reality is at least 40 minutes is necessary to achieve optimal brewing temperature.
Dial “G” for Espresso
“Dialing in” the KitchenAid, using 100% Arabica Beans, Medium Roast, espresso blend. Utilizing its Single Dose non-pressurized filter basket there wasn’t much taste difference between new and old espresso machines. My assumption was that the issue was not with the KitchenAid, but was with my Grinder. I reasoned, that it was time for an upgrade. Upon replacing the grinder, brewing the same 100% Arabica Beans blend, I could taste “Notes of Flavors” a 1st for me.
Where’s the Creama?
Next up with a blend of both Arabica and Robusto Beans. Again a Medium Roast. The inclusion of Robusto Beans should’ve create larger amounts of Creama. My Initially results was puzzling as I didn't experience any more Creama. After an Investigation I found the culprit to be the Portafilter because its plastic liner, there to divert the coffee into its spouts, didn't conduct heat and also created a bottleneck. It was replaced with both a Bottomless and 2-Spout Portafilters.
LIKE
- Full set of high-quality accessories
- Delicious espresso once dialed
- Commercial sized 58mm Portafilter
- Fantastic Value
- Heated Cup warmer
- Great Steaming Ability
- Automatic Milk Frothier
NO LIKE
- Needs to be more focused at being an espresso machine too many compromises for coffee drinkers
- Goes into Sleep too quickly, doing so does not allow machine sufficient time to achieve optimal brewing temperature resulting in under brewed, sour, tasting espresso
- Would have liked it to have a Metal Body but they're too expensive. Plastic body not Robust like my KitchenAid Stand Mixer
Conclusion
It does have some annoying traits. I would’ve preferred to have an adjustable sleep timer rather than adjustable water temperatures. Still KitchenAid has delivered the best espresso experience in my coffee journey. This was made so by a couple additions and patiences.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had mine for about 3 weeks. Only downer is I replaced the portafilter to a bottomless. That being, because I didn’t like the fact that there is plastic inside the filter itself. I don’t feel like boiling hot water and plastic is a well combination.
This machine is capable of pulling the perfect espresso when using fresh beans and properly packing it (super creamy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this espresso machine about a month ago so I could have lattes with my new stay at home job. As a beginner I was a bit intimidated of most machines and have come to love how easy it is to use this KitchenAid machine! I makes delicious espresso practically with the touch of a button! I enjoy the semi-automatic milk frother but have started manually frothing milk as I feel I can achieve my desired froth level a bit easier this way. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone!

Quality Unit at a Decent Price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This espresso machine is solidly constructed. The pieces were well packaged and the assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow which is good because this was my first machine of this type. I was impressed with how sturdy and stout the pieces were as I unpacked them and how everything fit together snugly so I am not worried about leaks. The unit is easy to operate and easy to clean which is nice since espresso takes a little more work than traditional drip coffee already. Size of the unit is pretty big but not too big; it might be kind of tight if you don’t have much counter space but it is most definitely not the biggest unit out there. Overall would recommend to anyone looking for a solid machine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This espresso machine really is an amazing piece to add to your kitchen if you love coffee. Although I found it to be kinda confusing with time I think it will get easier to use. But its sooo very well made and comes with all the tools for a great cup of Joe.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] KitchenAid Espresso Machine and Automatic Milk Frother Attachment Bundle is something any coffee lover should have, the machine looks good and takes up very little space. Includes all attachments to make espresso, latte, and cappuccino at home. The espresso machine offers dual temperature sensors that heat water and brew coffee ideally in seconds. In about 45 seconds or so you are ready to enjoy your cup of coffee. This is my first espresso machine and the learning curve was not that bad after a few cups of trial and error I am enjoying some great coffee, If you want a Latte, the milk frother attachment works well to add some hot milk straight to your cup. The machine comes with a portafilter that holds one of the four different filler baskets. Which have been designed as single or double baskets for either 1 shot or 2 shot cups, 1-Espresso Machine, 1-Portafilter, 1-Coffee Scoop, 1-Tamper, 1-Steam Wand, 1-Milk Pitcher, 1-Water Tank, 4-Filter Baskets/ different shot size, 1-Drip Tray, 1-Automatic Milk Frother Attachment, 1-Milk Tank, 1-Cleaning Brush.

Enjoying the Espresso

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I enjoy drinking espresso but I am a newbie when it comes to making it. I was hopeful that the KitchenAid Espresso Machine would walk me through the steps of making the different types of espresso drinks. When unpacking the machine, I was excited to see a card that gave a website to go watch a "how to" quick start video. However, when I went to that site, there were lots of "how to" quick start videos on a lot of different KitchenAid products but not one for the Espresso machine. I would have given this a 5 star rating but was disappointed to not have a quick start video to watch. I went on YouTube to search for KitchenAid videos or other espresso machines instructions It is an easy machine to operate and does make a good espresso but I would like to know how to make machiatto, lattes, etc. I like that it has a warming plate on top of the machine that you warm your cup while you are packing the coffee portafiller. I had to look up what that was called--like I said I am a newbie to making espresso!
