Why the screen protector??

I really liked this case but I hated the screen protector so much that I had to return it :(
It didn’t feel nice and got scratched right away.
I don’t understand why didn’t they just leave it empty so you could choose your own screen protector and change it when you need to, WITHOUT needing to throw away the whole case.
