POWER IN YOUR POCKET

Simply amazing point and shoot. Had the G10 and finally got a DSLR 2 years after. I realized that the G10 was not as pocketable and if I was carrying something in a case it was my DSLR. Enter the S95
Specs and performance equal to the G11/G12 without the bulk and you can't forget about the price.......plus, it fits in a front pocket.
Canon puts out a lot of products for photographers and I believe this to be one of those gem's that shines in every way that only comes out every couple years.
Matte black, stealth, and pocketable.
I would pick one of these up now.
Pros: pocket-size fully manual control layout finish
Cons: lanyard to long
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best Pocket Camera I've ever owned
on March 5, 2011

I still have a lot to learn about all the neat features offered by this camera, but what I've learned to do so far has made it possible to take spectacular photos. My first use of the S95 was on a trip to Cambodia (Angkor Wat). There were 15 other travelers in my group . . . almost all with expensive, bulky SLR cameras. By the time the trip ended, all 15 were ready chuck their SLRs and buy a Powershot S95. The low light pictures were amazing - none of the SLR cameras could even come close. I was also very surprised how sharp most of the digital zoom pictures were even though I wasn't using a tripod. All the colors were bright and true. I took over 5,000 pictures at full resolution on this trip and need to boil them down to the best 200 for a vacation video. In the past, that's not been a problem because I was lucky if I had 200 really good photos. But with the S95, 80% were really good. I love this camera.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

The Best Pocket Digital Camera so far

I bought the S95 at Samys March 2011. Tell you the truth, I wasn't quite happy with the price from the beginning, but after I took it home and started playing with it...WOW. the picture quality is amazing for pocket size camera. It's so much easy to carry around. I took my daughter to Disneyland - we took boat ride into SmallWorld, the low light condition shooting amazed me. Pictures came out more than what I expected. S95 has geat features. It allows user to set Av and Tv plus much more... Another feature that I like about the S95 is 720p video. Over all. I think this is a SUPER pocket size camera. I'm using S95 so much now a day, I'm thinking selling my SLR system (70-200mm IS f2.8 lens & 24-70mm f2.8 lens, 580EX flash) - Will See.
Here is what I quite not happy with S95: zoom is limited 4x and battery is doesn't last long as compared to other canon compact size cameras.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, feel solid great texture
Cons: Short battery life

Not quite what I was expecting

I've used Powershots S - SX series for years, but they are getting too chunky, so I decided to try this smaller camera. I especially wanted to use it in low light as it has an f2 lens. A friend had shown me her S90 and it seemed an interesting camera. Well, surprise, surprise - no night shot choices on SCN anymore. What an idiotic thing to do, to swap out night shots for 'minaturization effect" --??? How many people use THAT? And the aquarium setting is gone for shooting through glass. This will teach me to really research a product and not assume things transfer from one model to the next.
What I do like about the camera is that the wheel is much easier to use than on past models, and I like the ring feature. I've been pleased with closeups. The LCD screen is huge and easy to see. The battery worries me, as other powershots had easy to find batteries and when travelling I can see I will need several batteries, as they last about 250 shots.
I modified the camera with a small grip (hey, Canon, think about this!) so it's easier to hold. Maybe after I use this camera for awhile it will grow on me.
The night shots that I did take were no better than with my past powershots. So I'm disappointed with this aspect of the camera.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life

Great for indoor shots!

This new Canon S95 has a dedicated icon on the thumb dial for low-light situations--no need to go through a typical "Scene" menu in order to select "indoor" or "party", or to manually set up white balance and ISO for indoors. And, the camera works terrifically at this setting--bright, clear and color-accurate indoor shots.

the S95 has many of the creative features of leading prosumer dslr's at a fraction of the size, weight and cost. Can't beat that with a stick.
The new grippy surface makes the camera much easier to hold and handle than it's predecessor.
I love the C function which allows me to select and use my own custom HDR settings.
The LCD screen is brilliant and very sharp, making composition much easier on the eyes.
I haven't tested the S95 at all ISO's yet, but I have done quite a bit of shooting at 400 ISO and as far as I can tell the files (raw) are noise free. Amazing!
Pros: raw files, sharp f2.0 lens, tiny size
Cons: only 200 shots per battery charge, no physical instruction manual to carry with me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love this camera

What I really wanted was a camera that had all the compact portability of a point-and-shoot but with manual features like a DSLR. The S95 has been perfect. I take gorgeous photos in Auto mode but have the option to really dial it in by messing with shutter speed, F-stop, and ISO settings. And the LCD is better than the one on my laptop! Overall, I feel like I got a great quality camera with just the right amount of features for a very fair price.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not perfect - but very good

One of the best cameras I ever had, but it has a number of design problems.
Pop up flash gets obstructed by hand on its way up and camera locks up completely.
Control wheel placement is very bad. The settings often are changed by accident during shooting.
Some controls are counterintuitive.
Pros: low light perfomance (f2.0), great sensor, features, size
Cons: control wheel placement, pop-up flash placement, hard to navigate controls
