Overall Good/Nice camera

This is my first really moderately advanced camera. It's not for a real beginner, but maybe not enough for the pro. It is a good lightweight, portable, carry-in-you-pocket camera. If you take a little time and figure out the settings (I find the (P) Program mode works the best) it will take very nice photos. I also find that if you have the flash up all the time and set it to AutoFlash setting, It will consistently take good photos.
Battery life is moderate with rechargeable batteries. Write speed is decent depending on what SD card you are using, but it is considerably slower when using the flash.
I really LOVE the options of being able to take photos in different formats, depending on what you intend to do with the prints. You can set it to take photos in HD for High Quality prints of different sizes or for easy emailing. The large screen is very nice also....just buy some screen protectors.
All in all I'm satisfied with this camera. I think it will be a very good "stepping stone" to a new Canon SLR.

Great features for the intermediate user

I ordered this camera as an upgrade to an older Powershot, this model's selling point was the ability to record in HD with stereo audio.
After one weekend of use I will say that I'm please with the look, quality and features of the camera.
My biggest dissatisfaction is the fact that it doesn't take good photos on Auto in most circumstances. With my old Powershot I could just point and shoot and know that even if the picture wasn't perfect it would at least be usable. With this model many photos come out blurry even if the subject is completely still.
It takes some time to tweak the settings to get a good shot which is not good when trying to get a cute shot of a baby, my main reason for this camera.
When setting the shot correctly the image quality is excellent but sadly this is not the case for most shots taken while on the run.
I do love the smile sensing feature and the video and sound quality met my expectations.
The fact that the flash has to be manually raised every time is a big inconvenience and sometimes the flash is entirely too bright for the situation.
It still sluggish when writing to the memory card even when using a class 10 SDHC but I'm not surprised about it.
Overall this is a solid product with a lot of potential, I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner user but it is great for the person that likes a lot of features and flexibility without the bulk and cost of a SLR camera.
The battery life was average, ranging from very good in daylight conditions to pretty horrible using flash and video.

Cons: Poor image quality, Difficult to use, Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu

I received this camera as a gift. I absolutely love it!! It takes great pictures and it's very easy to use! I would highly recommend this camera.
Pros: excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

This camera may have great features, but--no explanation on how to use many of the features.
The printing and emailing are NIGHTMARES---to hard to use or understand. I would not recomend this product.

complete disappointment

I was looking to purchase a more portable and higher megapixel camera than my current Canon Powershot S3IS. After reading the reviews, I decided on
the SX130 and couldn't wait to start using it.
From the box I was disappointed. I had read the review of the grainy LCD screen, and the response from the Canon tech support stating they had not had this complaint before. Well, my LCD is grainy as well. Once the picture is taken, the picture review appears clear, however it is hard to determine if the picture you are shooting is in focus before snapping the picture. Another complaint is the focus box that appears on the LCD when partially depressing the shutter button. It seems the box chooses another site to focus on rather than what I want to focus on. Also, the LCD goes black for a few seconds after taking the picture. I find this annoying.
The pet/kid mode does not stop the action of the moving subjects. Even the slightest movement results in a blurred picture.
As for the actual prints, the quality is terrible. I get clearer and sharper images from my old 6 mp S3IS than I do this 14 mp camera. I guess you get what you pay for.
It is definately going back!

Great Camera

I was abled to use the camera right out of the box with out even reading the quick start guide. However, after reading the guide I was impressed at all the features and manual settings there are and how easy it is to use the many features. For its size it is lightweight - I hope that doesn't equate to flimsy construction. Time will tell. I like the big LCD screen and easy to use zoom lever. Battery life appears to be pretty good - am using rechargeables. Like that fact I can just go to almost any store and pick up extras with out having to charge a proprietary battery pack. I took a bunch of pictures and they all came out great!

DIsappointed with this camera

I just bought this camera before Christmas and I'm really disappointed. The battery life using the flash is terrible, even using the recommended NiMH 2300 mAh rechargeable batteries. The picture quality with new batteries is good for posed pictures. However, if anyone is moving the pictures have blurry areas even when on the kids and pets setting. After taking just a few pictures it seems to take forever to write to the SD card so taking multiple shots is impossible. Again, with a brand new batteries you can use the continous shotting mode and it works but not once you've taken a few pictures. My daughter has a different Canon camera and she can take 3 shots while this camera is still writing to the SD card.
I haven't used the camera outside yet, I think it would be much when you don't have to use the flash. This is the most expensive camera I've ever bought. I'm hoping I can return it and get something else that will do multiple shots faster and not take so many batteries.

Vacation

We bought our camera for vacation. We took our 8 year old on her first flight and first visit to Disneyland. They shots were great and easy to use. We have wonderful memories and the pictures to reflect on.
I do have one problem and it is the date appears on the front of the picture. I always am disapointed if a picture isn't dated but I would like it to be on the back. Am I missing something in the manual to change this.
