A friend of mine has a Canon PowerShot and loves it. I was extremely impressed how beautiful the photos turned out!!! Crisp and clear!!! She has a 10x optical zoom. Decided I needed to look into purchasing a new camera. Great camera. I purchased the PowerShot sx130 IS. Very happy with the ease of use. Canon has always been a trusted name since I can remember.
Cons: can't think of one at this time.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great features for the intermediate user

I ordered this camera as an upgrade to an older Powershot, this model's selling point was the ability to record in HD with stereo audio.
After one weekend of use I will say that I'm please with the look, quality and features of the camera.
My biggest dissatisfaction is the fact that it doesn't take good photos on Auto in most circumstances. With my old Powershot I could just point and shoot and know that even if the picture wasn't perfect it would at least be usable. With this model many photos come out blurry even if the subject is completely still.
It takes some time to tweak the settings to get a good shot which is not good when trying to get a cute shot of a baby, my main reason for this camera.
When setting the shot correctly the image quality is excellent but sadly this is not the case for most shots taken while on the run.
I do love the smile sensing feature and the video and sound quality met my expectations.
The fact that the flash has to be manually raised every time is a big inconvenience and sometimes the flash is entirely too bright for the situation.
It still sluggish when writing to the memory card even when using a class 10 SDHC but I'm not surprised about it.
Overall this is a solid product with a lot of potential, I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner user but it is great for the person that likes a lot of features and flexibility without the bulk and cost of a SLR camera.
The battery life was average, ranging from very good in daylight conditions to pretty horrible using flash and video.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD
Cons: Poor image quality, Difficult to use, Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love This Camera!

I've had this camera for a while now and have never had any issues with it. It takes clear, concise photographs that are very clean. I have been able to take those same photographs and have them professionally enlarged as big as 48x32" for framing. The quality of the enlarged photo was not compromised. The only complaint I have is with regards to the battery life when using the flash; it does seem to be quite short. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the performance of this camera and plan on getting another one for my daughter.
Pros: easy to use, great auto feature
Cons: Short battery life

Excellent value

I bought this camera in the afternoon and did some test shots at a nearby park with a small lake and sailboats. Both the stills, shot at 2 meg, and videos turned out wonderful, especially the HD video .
This camera is a definite winner and excellent value for the money.I found it to be like a scaled down S3 IS , which I still own. Would suggest it for a young family starting out.
The AA batteries are a plus, use only top of the line batteries and turn off camera when not shooting.

Good camera. Yes, it does come with a guide book..

Used - out of the box - for the 1st time yesterday with nice results. Even without having time to read the guide book. And, yes, contrary to what other reviewers have said - THERE IS A GUIDE BOOK. It is on the accompanying disc.
Also, some have remarked about the poor battery life. The AA batteries do more than just turn on the camera and open the aperture. They also run programs. So, like your cell phone battery that drains more quickly the more apps you use, the camera battery drains more quickly based on what you are doing. That said, I took 157 photos yesterday with many instances where the camera was turned on long enough that it defaulted to shut itself down (as I had set it to), thereby draining faster. Even after the battery warning appeared on the screen I was able to take a dozen more photos....with the potential for more.
After uploading to my laptop I am very pleased with the quality. Shots were taken indoors, zoomed, in low light, outdoors on battlefields, in freezing conditions. All done intuitively - before reading the guide book.
If it holds up to the physical stresses I think this will be a good camera overall I do wish it had a metal body.
Pros: rather intuitive, good even for those who never read manuals
Cons: plastic body, would be nice if it came with screen protector(s)

Great Camera For Anyone
on January 3, 2013

I have used many different cameras like this and I think this one is specifically nice to use. For people who want to go more advanced, there are manual modes like aprature and shutter speed priority which work pretty well. For beginners, the camera is also great because of the guides and good explanations that pop up. However, regular alkaline batteries don't cut it at all. All this this time I have owned the camera, I've used advanced lithium batteries but don't worry, they are not hard to find. Also, at first, the camera seems to be slightly heavy and bulky but you get used to it over time. One more note, I have dropped this camera off counters, on ship decks, and on asphalt many times and it has nicely survived them all.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, more advanced
Cons: Short battery life, moderate low light performance, moderately heavy

used camera in Amazon. Bought because there would be no way to charge camera and this takes AA batteries.
Used Energizer Ultimate AA batteries. Was impressed by the number of shots I took before batteries gave out.
Excellent all purpose with good zoom to take photos of wildlife. Performed beyond my expectations.
