It is a battery eater, first the batteries that came with the unit were corroded. I replaced, worked once gave an alert, Week later I was going to listen to the radio found batteries dead. Guess the clock got it. No option to plug in
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Midland appreciates the feedback and hears the frustration. A battery should not arrive corroded and if you are not satisfied with the performance, the customer experience will be happy to assist you with options on your current radio model.

Disappointed in the product

I have had this radio in my possession for around 2 months and I have used it for a variety of different things including travel, camping, and most of all, home use. I am a weather radio collector and have seen all ranges of weather radios and I will one hundred percent say this radio is unreliable. While I do understand certain aspects of this radio including the lack of S.A.M.E. Programming, the most major issue I have had is the radio randomly activating at random times. I have been woken up by this radio 4 times and it has gone off 7 times, each time being when EAS Tones are not being relayed over NOAA Radio Broadcasts. In an emergency situation I cannot rely on this device to properly notify me of severe weather anymore knowing it could randomly activate, and in saying this, if somebody gets used to this and there IS an actual emergency and they don’t check their radio, then it could be a major safety risk. As I said, I am a weather radio collector so this is not an issue for me but for somebody who has this radio as their only means of being notified of warnings, watches, or advisories, it could be a major design flaw. If this issue is fixed I would most definitely say this is a better radio. Another issue I see is that it is strictly battery use only and does not have a AC/DC Port for home use. While I know this is designed for travel use, even so, it should have the ability to be plugged in, in the situation of an emergency. The only things good about this radio is that it is compact, the alert sound is definitely loud enough to notify you (even if it is a false activation), and the flashlight on it can be useful. I have multiple Midland radios from weather radios to communication radios, and it surprises me to see this from Midland, saying they usually make very good quality products but this is probably the worse Midland product and worst weather radio I have ever bought.

Hello - because, as you mentioned, this radio cannot be programmed, it may pick up alerts even 50-100 miles away, depending on the broadcast signal. As a portable radio, that is one of the features. Sometimes there may not be severe weather in your area, but the radio will still tone/alert. It will also alert for watches and advisories, not just warnings, as the events are not selectable. If this radio is going off with no advisories, watches, or warnings and there is no weather report to accompany it, please reach out to support@midlandusa.com to replace it, as your radio may be defective.
