[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Previously, I bought a third party charger for my X1 Extreme but it stopped working after barely a month. After buying the official Lenovo charger again, I have had no problems. This is why you should always stick to official products.

Better for Laptop Bag, Doesn't Always Deliver 170W

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm using this 170W slim charger with my new X1 Extreme Gen 3.
Overall I'm satisfied with this charger, most especially because it is flatter than the more blocky traditional chargers. It's slim enough to actually fit inside the Lenovo laptop sleeves that have the extra zipper compartment and it doesn't bulge out like a fatter charger would.
This charger will reach about 9 feet from the outlet to the laptop plug. I do wish that there was a way to hold the first segment of the power cord into the charger itself (the wire that goes from the outlet into the charger itself.) If the outlet is too far away and you move your laptop around, the wire has a tendency to pull out of the charger. This would be helpful, but it's not a major deficiency by any means. The ability to detach the power cord from the rest of the charger is helpful for storage/transportation.
When plugged into my laptop the Lenovo Vantage utility does recognize it as a 170W charger. In my case, it can charge from a drained battery to full charge in about 1 hr 45 minutes give-or-take.
I am deducting one star because I plugged this charger into a watt meter to see if it's actually pulling 170 watts when it's actively charging the laptop. I connected it to my X1 Extreme Gen 3 when the battery was completely drained. I turned the laptop on immediately after plugging it in, and the watt meter never reported any more than about 130 watts of power draw. I ran a series of stress test applications on the laptop to see if it ever pulled a full 170 watts, but again, it never passed 130 watts. So, with a fully drained Gen 3 laptop connected and running vigorous stress tests, it's only delivering about 75% of the 170 watt rated capacity. I'm not sure if this is by design or an actual fault with the laptop or this charger, but either way, it's clear that spending the extra money on a 170 watt charger versus the 130 watt charger didn't get me anything extra.
Other than that, I'm happy with this purchase.
