Labelling Accountant's Files

As a CPA, I prepare many income tax returns, personal property tax returns, financial statements and workpapers. I keep many years' returns in files labelled "Income Tax File" and "Personal Property Tax File" and the workpapers and financial statements are kept in files labelled either "Workpaper File" or "Financial Statement File". I often have questions about previous years' tax returns. In order to find the information fast, I put a 1/2 inch flag at the beginning of each year's tax returns, and write the year on the tab. In the past, when in meetings with clients, IRS auditors, attorneys, bankers, and judges they have remarked that they were impressed by the speed in which I could find information that they requested. In a meeting, nobody likes waiting for someone to find information necessary to the discussions. Using the 1/2 inch flags to separate years makes meetings go much faster, and has increased referrals to my practice.

My children use planners for school. We use these flags to mark our page in their planners. I can easily flip right to the day that I need to sign. They save us lots of time everyday.

I use them on the calendar :)
Each time we have an appointment, I put the date, time, who goes, and who to see on a little flag, and tape it to the calendar. That way I can see at a glance how busy or not busy the month will be. :) It works very well!!!

I use the 1/2 inch Post-It flags to mark pages in my spiral-bound notebook. I use it to keep track of my daily items to do and those that I have completed. If there are items left to be done I use a Post-It Flag to mark the page which reminds me to go back and complete the task. I use the colors to indicate if the item is considered immediate, important, etc.

I have clinics that run 3-4 times a month. People sign up for the clinics months in advance. I would put the flags on the folders to know where to put the applications. Once that clinic was done I could take the flag off without hurting the folder and use the folder over again.

These colorful little flags make handy bookmarks in my cookbooks. You can color code by category. Yellow-desserts, blue-main dishes, green-side dishes, etc. I like to write the recipe name on each flag so that I don't have to search through multiple books!
