Print Server Installation - Great Product
on September 29, 2021
Posted by: Mike48
This is my second purchase of the Network LPR Print Server. We've been using the first on our home network for several years without any problems. When I installed the second one on the network I kept getting an error message "Error loading print server driver." After researching the StarTech.com website and several failed attempts to correct the error myself, I called the 800 number for technical support. The technician was very professional and immediately helpful. Within minutes he walked me through the process to remove and reload the printer through the Windows 10 Device Settings. We can now use both printers on our home network from each computer. Thank you StarTech for a great product and very professional and helpful Technical Support. I highly recommend this "little" USB LPR Print Server!

Same Problem as Jacky dropping off the network
on June 19, 2017
Posted by: StevenMBC
Bought this and set it up, it works for a few and then drops off of the network .. cannot ping it nor can I browse the server ... tried to set it to a static address and with dhcp and the same thing happens. Only solution is to disconnect the power and reconnect it. I had the same thing happen with two different adapters. had to remove them from the network and find another solution. :(

Finally got it to work reliably!!
on August 6, 2021
Posted by: StevenS
After about a year of on and off tinkering I *finally* believe I've found a way to keep this unit from spontaneously disconnecting. Summary: 1. Update the firmware via the USB server program included with the firmware download. 2. Configure the print server with a static IP followed by restarting the printer server. 3. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding setting up your printer. It's been up for days and working perfectly. It was a long and winding road, but it works!!

Printer server keeping disconnect
on April 8, 2017

Move into new office, and the printer server keeping disconnect, can not ping it, has to power cycle the printer server, and after 5-10 minutes, it lost connection again, has to power cycle the box again
Response from startech.comBy Barry, Customer Support, April 10, 2017
Hi Jacky,
Thanks for letting us know about this.
You mentioned moving to a new office. It is possible that with the office change, the server is looking for the IP address it was associated with at the previous location.
Have you tried removing the printer from your system and manually setting the server up again?
We have some helpful FAQs that may be of some assistance to you. They can be found here: https://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/Print/usb-print-server~PM1115U2#dnlds

Constantly Drops off LAN
on May 1, 2018

I bought this product to enable the office to share a USB Dymo label printer. I constantly have to reboot it for it to work even though I have bind MAC-IP on the router. Please update the firmware so this stop causing us issues. Thank you

No Default Gateway Option
on August 25, 2021
Posted by: Tim9
I cannot believe I'm saying this in 2021. You can only specify the IP and Subnet, the device does not support in anyway a Default Gateway. So if you are planning to use this across multiple networks or like in my case over a VPN. It will NOT work. I confirmed this was not fixed in the latest firmware either. This product should not be purchased by anyone since it does not have proper network configuration and will strand you at some point.

Mostly useless
on March 21, 2018

I have found the same problems with the device. Stays online for anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, and then all network connections stop working. Light still flashes, but has to be rebooted. The device is supposed to make printing easy to use... Having to explain to them that "before you can print you have to restart this device every time" is really unacceptable. I contacted support and their method to get me to test was to "Would it be possible if you can test the PM1115U2 on a test PC and have the print server connected directly to the PC’s Ethernet port without a network" I'm not sure what this would achieve. This is not how computers work. Unless I use a crossover cable; or do some other such messing around, this wouldn't allow me to print
