I got this right before I started my training at Camp MacKall 25 years ago. It was a big purchase then, I didn’t have a lot of extra cash. It made it through the military, then as a paramedic, then as a bartender (you’d be surprised how often it came in handy). Around our rural homestead (10+ years) I carry it everyday, and it’s a rare day I don’t use it. Finally, while trying to bend a latch working on the fencing, one side of the pliers snapped off. I was crushed, it’d been my companion for a long time. I’m back on the site now ordering another one.

My teenage son asked for a multi-tool like mine, because "yours always works better" than the multitool he has (to be fair, his is a lower-end version of another brand's offerings). I've had my PowerLock over 20 years now, back when they came in a heavy leather belt holder. I functions flawlessly with just the most basic of care and maintenance - a quick wipe down when it's dirty and maybe an annual blade sharpening, if that often. It's lasted through years of duty as a field electrician, countless hunting and fishing trips through swamps, saltwater, and mountain winter climates. The only way you could tell mine isn't nearly new is the case and the older logo font on the handle. If you take one thing from this review, this tool has never failed me once in 20 years. Never. Even when using it in "off label" improvised kinds of ways. Buy one now - the only reason you'll need to buy another is because you don't want to give yours to your kid.

Beautiful multitool. Basically a polished stainless steel sculpture that you can carry with you. Not only do I have a pocketful of tools if I happen to need one, but also, I find myself admiring the sculpture-like quality of it. This one is definitely in my EDC rotation. I go back and forth regarding "what I am carrying lately".

This is a wonderful tool. It took a few days before I could get to use it. I discovered a fence problem in my pasture. The "Power lock..." was the only tool that I happened to be carrying. I fixed the fence and used a few tools found on this knife. It's a great tool. My 79 yr.old fingers had some difficulty accessing tools and it is the heaviest multi tool I have ever carried. I wouldn't want to part with it. My fingers will learn what to do and I will continue to "pump iron," to adapt to the weight. I highly recommend this multi tool.

Cannot find replacement guard

I received my SOG when i was serving in the Navy in 2005 and it quickly became my best friend. Sadly I lost one of the metal guards that go over the individual tools on a deployment and since than this little tool has followed me and hurt my hands every time I have used it since. I cant bear to part with this but I cannot find where to go to buy replacement shields (not sure what they are called) searched the site but no luck.

I've had this multi-tool for well over 6 years. It was handed down to me and it came with a leather pouch, if that dates it appropriately. In construction, I wore this on my hip everyday and used it constantly. Since then, its at least in my truck, if not in my pocket.
The lockout feature on this tool is what really makes it so incredible. Not having to worry about injuring yourself so you can put some muscle into your work is great peace of mind. All the tools included are super sturdy and I've never had a problem with them. My Scissors are even still sharp!! (I did recently brake my saw blade, but that was improper application on my part *sad face*)
One of my favorite things about this tool is its weight. A multi-tool, IMO, is not something you should expect to be able to carry without knowing its there. A tool of this caliber isn't meant for that. The weight improves the ability of every tool your use and you can open it like a balisong knife, which adds like 50 points of cool factor to it!
I'd love to get another multi-tool because i'm a gear guy, but this one will literally last me a lifetime and will certainly end up in the hands of my oldest son. Thank you SOG.
(Also, first knife that got me into knives not just found at the hardware store was a SOG Flash II)
