Truly professional offering from Metabo HPT

I have really enjoyed working with the Metabo HPT multivolt 3x21” belt sander.
I’ve been running it with 4.0 AH batteries for material removal, scribe work and other things in between.
This is truly a professional tool. Corded power, great dust collection and good battery life. It’s has all the feature you would want.
It might be a bit heavy, but other cordless belt sanders on the market share the same issue.
Pros: Speed, Quality, Features, Power

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Belt Sanders are a rather large part of the efficiency in my workflow, and now I can finally give up the cord without giving up any of the power. I actually have the SB8V2 corded belt sander as well as this 36v cordless one and the difference in power is pretty minimal. My corded belt sander has always run a bit warm, which is a bit of a problem on hot summer days because I don't have any sort of air conditioning in my shop. This sander runs nice and cool because of the brushless technology. The motor is VERY efficient and the platen even stays cool enough to lay your hand on immediately after sanding, which I can't do with my corded model. The tracking adjustment is also much superior on this belt sander, much easier to adjust. With my experience so far, a 4 amp hour multivolt battery is more than enough to sand the hardwood floors in an average sized kitchen through 1 grit. I have multiple multivolt batteries so I can keep going and just rotate batteries through chargers without any overheating or outpacing my battery supply. It's rather gentle on batteries for how much power it puts out.
Also the platen on this sander is flat enough that the sander will sit flat on the belt on its own without having to try and hold it flat during use. This is very much welcome for the longer sanding sessions. The main use of this tool for me is the preliminary sanding of large edge glued panels. On large projects I'll run it from 50, to 80, and then 120 grit. This saves me so much time vs trying to do it all with a random orbit sander. Plus this belt sander is controllable enough to where I don't have to worry about leaving divots or grooves in my workpiece. I've even used it to flush sand drawers and edge banding veneer. It's just that good!
This thing is a lifesaver when deadlines are tight and you have to make sure your hourly rate as a furniture shop is tenable for the long term future. I couldn't live without it. This tool alone helps keep me competitive while keeping my hourly high enough to pay the bills.

Surprisingly good dust collection

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sander arrived in my shop, just in time for some cleanup on a walnut table top. I hooked it up to a standard shop vac and ran it till the battery died. I was surprised at how well the dust collection worked for a belt sander. Battery life was exactly as I expected and the batteries charge quickly. I will definitely be purchasing more belts and making this tool a staple on my shop.

This was a great addition for the woodshop in the making. It was a tremendous help knocking down those high points after the glue up on my first cutting board project.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do a lot of custom millwork and stair cases so lots of scribing and shaping and this belt sander is a beast at that!
It’s got good balance and plenty of power! I love that I can dial it down for fine tuning things or turn it up for heavy removal. And boy can it really eat some wood! The convenience of battery power is awesome but I also really like that if I really needed I could use the ac adapter and plug it in! All in all this sander is awesome!

GREAT Tool

We are a framing construction company in Missouri. We used this sander for finish work and deck projects. This is a great tool. It runs very well. We have used it in a heavy removal application and fiber applications. It works well under both applications. Highly recommend this sander for FIYers and professionals!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is definitely the answer that I have been looking forward to!! Finally a balanced, lightweight belt sander with the power to sand even the toughest wood! I can't say enough about the balance on this; it really makes sanding with one hand a more achievable reality than the corded HPT. Dust collection even without the vacuum attachment is really good! Belt change is quick and painless with tracking knob located directly on the idler wheel. The variable speed includes a really neat feature - it incorporates an "A" setting that, when under a no-load situation, it runs at its slowest setting but when load is applied it automatically ramps to 1475! How cool is that!
All in all, I am really happy with the overall product performance. They have, once again, hit the nail on the head! I highly recommend this to anyone in need of a lightweight belt sander that eats as good or better than the pigtailed competition! (Just in case you are unwilling to convert, they offer a corded adapter that works great as well....but why????)
