I have been using the tread 2 for over a month… The device works very well! I do not yet consider myself an expert at using it. I gives you a lot of information… Depending on how you set it… I am still learning how to effectively set the layers for each purpose… Enduro, Adventure, 4x4… If you ride a hard enduro trail and forget to switch back to an adventure routing level… Then you can miss things… I have been developing a process. Each time you switch to a different Mode of riding you need to stop take a few minutes and check the settings to insure you don’t automatically continue in the previous mode! The device doesn’t know how you ride… It needs you to set it to what you want it to show you… If you want to take a round about way into a small town the full adventure setting works very well… But it can also route you through a maze of stuff you don't want or need to see.. So Being present to how it is set is VERY Important since most of us are going to zone out and just twist the throttle… If you are leading a group, they need to know you are changing modes so they comprehend the ride / route is changing… I found when I was picking my way through a new area that just setting a point a few miles ahead slightly after the next gate or road turn worked very well.. I keeps me focused on just that distance and lets me describe others what to look for so they can lead too. It worked very well! I know the next point is just past the gate or turn so You are not questioning if it is the right way to go… I found we never over shot the turn… When you are in familiar territory or on a more significant trail or road then you can go back to setting a much further point. Much of your success is keeping these you are with in your decision loop. At the end of the first major ride my friend who brought his Montana realized this new tread 2 device was definitely worth buying… He could never get his Montana to really do what he wanted… When you route through an area that there is no trail on the map , The tread 2 is the best device for this… This is very common for us here in the Sonoran desert… we have enormous areas to ride and come upon new trails often… When we want to cut a new trail the topo and 3d views are extremely helpful and often keeps you from walking (in motorcycle boots) a VERY LONG way to find out if it actually possible to make the trail connect. We all know that Online Maps are great when you sit in a chair at your desk but when get out there it is a whole different situation… Tread 2 is amazing in the moment!!! You have the information exactly when you need it!!! Once you ride the trail (typically improving it as you go) the device records the trail so you can send it to others… I found I needed to study the topo and 3d views carefully and zoom in to accurately estimate how steep the topography is. It is easy to overlook information when you are bouncing on rocks… taking a little time to be sure is well worth it… I am very glad I bought the Tread 2 instead of the Zumo… The Tread 2 is the best for Hard Enduro Through Adventure Riding !! and still works great on the road…
Great navigator, easy to see day or night, I use it in offroad vehicles and on motorcycles. So far its been great in nasty wet weather and super hot conditions. It would be nice if the interface for uploading was a little more user friendly. I have had the best luck using SD cards to upload. The moto mount seems to be pretty secure so far. Overall a great product for adventure navigation.

I have had this a few weeks and it has worked out great so far. I managed to get routes loaded even though I am not all that tech savvy. Would like that functionality to be a little better explained by Garmin. Navigating was easy and I was able to see the screen well in all weather conditions. The mount feels like a good solid connection and the install on the Tenere was a snap with the existing power wiring and a couple of matching connections. Overall a massive step up to using an iPhone!
I have had other Garmin GPS in the past bought this Tread 2 to use in my car and on my Enduro motorcycle. For a very expensive unit it lacks voice control and I also to buy a new Garmin Mini 2 to be able to text with it and get a better experience. I have to say I would give the Mini 2 5 stars but I regret paying this much for basic GPS that's is claimed to be weatherproof.
Also apparently they took away the bird's eye view capabilities. It's nice and works well as a basic GPS nice screen and WiFi updates but that's about it.
Just had a chance to use the Tread2 this weekend. The GPS is great. Easy to create a route and save routes and way points. The clarity and detail of the GPS is great.
Upgraded from a montana 700 to the tread 2 on my snomobile after a buddy got one. So much easier to see during the day time. And love the new navigation features that didn't work on the 700. I also really like the tread app for planning rides too.
I have several Garmin GPS devices.......this one is, by far, the most difficult to learn how to use......I finally got it to show off road tracks.....not sure how useful it will be....
