Fun, Engaging Barbie

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the creativity of this doll. My child really enjoyed being able to make the doll her own. She has a unique style so it was fun to see what she would come up with. This Barbie was one she kept aside until she could play with it by herself & it kept her entertained for at least an hour!
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Barbie is such a neat concept. You get several different pieces of her body and clothing and head and everything else that you can customize your Barbie. My daughter loves playing with it and she says it’s like having 100 Barbies in one.

For the fashionista

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a fun Barbie. My daughter absolutely loved it. She enjoyed all the different fashions that she could create, but what she loved the most was the "snappy" heads for different hair styles. The snap ons where not difficult at all and were easy to use for little hands.

Underwhelming and Difficult to Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter and I had high hopes for this doll. The fact that it would be interactive and be able to mix and match was very appealing. However once we started trying to play with this doll we found out it was poorly made and not what it seemed on the box.
First it was very difficult to get the doll out of the box. I spent about 5 minutes trying to cut her out of captivity! Then there were a few blond bags which were a cute idea but there were bags within bags which seemed like a complete waste and excess.
Regarding the dolls. One of the heads didn’t even resemble what it was supposed it. It looked like it was dipped in gel and could not get her hair to resemble the box. It was hard to take the heads on and off and feared I would break it.
The clothes that were on the Barbie were super cheaply made and stuck on with double stick tape. This was not what I remember the clothes being like at all as a child. Very flimsy and cheap.
Overall we were both underwhelmed and this doll ended up back in the box quickly. Would not recommend.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

High-end details and customizability for a doll
on April 7, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter liked the customizability of this doll. The packaging was higher-end than a regular Barbie doll, making it feel "fancy". The doll came with one body, 3 heads, and 2 full outfits plus accessories/shoes. These could be put together in any number of combinations--nearly 150, as the package claimed. The clothes were made of higher-quality material than typical Barbie clothes, which was noticed by my daughter. She liked the long haired doll head with the bangs, and she enjoyed being able to "design" a look for her doll and pose her with the multi-jointed doll. Made to move dolls are her favorite, so she really enjoyed that aspect. The hair on one of the longer crimped wig was almost melted when it came out of the package (maybe when it was secured in the package, it was too warm?), and there was no brush to comb through it. We were able to separate the hair strands and make it look better. The boots, while fun, were a little hard to put on the feet with the ankle joints, but we managed. Swapping the heads on the doll was...interesting. They took some force to remove and replace--if not done right, the neck is SUPER long. It definitely was hard for my daughter, and I had to help her so that we didn't break anything on the doll. Overall, this is a higher-end Barbie, more geared to older girls or collectors than the typical Barbie.

Cool concept that needs finessing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Barbie Basics You Create Neutral 001 Kit is a really neat concept, but it needs a lot of finessing-especially for a Barbie Black Label product.
Overview: This kit comes with 3 heads, 1 body, 2 tops, 1 pair of shorts, 1 skirt, 1 pair of glasses, 2 sets of hair clips, 1 head band, 1 pair of earrings, 1 necklace, 1 doll stand, several hair ties, and 2 sets of shoes. The heads can be swapped with no struggle, which is the genius main concept of this kit. Even though the heads can be removed, when they are properly seated onto the body, they are stable and there is no floppy head syndrome-just use a slight bit of force to seat them well. The heads and Tall Made-To-Move body are a matching medium skin tone. All clothing and accessories are also able to be mixed and matched, coming from a similar color palette and design.
Pros: All the face sculpts (Lara, Mermaid, and Model of the Moment Nichelle) are absolutely gorgeous with fantastic makeup composition and no pixelation. Each head is completely unique from the others, with no overlapping of hair color, makeup, or hair style. It feels like the designer really took their time thinking about this when doing face ups. Choosing a Made-To-Move body allows a vast array of posing. The hair is quality saran. All the clothing has finished hems and are well made. The white top’s strap can be untied and retied differently to create new looks. All the accessories are realistic looking, except the earrings. The boots are just amazing and easy to take on and off. The packaging can be reused for easy storage.
Cons: The Lara head I received has pretty bad, gloopy lip screening defects, which is a shame because it is my favorite head and something that should have been caught in quality control, especially on a Barbie Black Label item. The hair on each doll also needed a lot of extra attention. I had to spend about 15+ minutes touching up the hair: the bangs were terribly cut on Lara and needed to be evened out, Nichelle had extra long stringy pieces and severe shedding, and Mermaid’s hair had some styling defects when hard gelled. Mermaid and Lara’s faces were also covered in sticky hair gel, so needed to be cleaned up-something that, again, should have been done in quality control, since, again, this is a Black Label product. The next issue is that Mattel is still using plastic tags to secure clothing, which leaves holes in them out the box. This happened with the white top where they secure the shirt strap down. It is extremely frustrating because this is a brand new item that is damaged and there is no way to avoid it (even with using scissors to carefully remove the clothing from the package, as I did) due to Mattel’s insistence on using tags. Now I will have spend more time trying to sew up the hole left, and even then it will still be obvious that it was repaired. This is something that customers have been complaining about for years and they still have not stopped using them. The next issue is with some of the accessories. The earrings are just horribly unappealing. They are just huge chunks are plastic with no realism and really stick out like a sore thumb when being worn. I do not understand why all the other accessories look nice, but Mattel stopped short when it came to the earring. Next the headband is too big and easily slips of the heads. Last for accessories, is that the platform heels’ top straps are warped and do not fit well around the ankle. The MTM body also had some sculpting defects on the left arm, out the box. The next con is that no easy option for storing the extra heads were given. Ideally, two busts to store the heads on should have been included. At minimum, resealable bags should added for head storage. The last con is that the color palette for these kits are so bland, beige, and boring-nothing about it screams Barbie. I would love to see a kit more aligned with Barbie core colors and style in the future.
Overall, the concept of the You Create kits are very neat, but the lack of quality control is extremely disappointing. These are Barbie Black Labeled, which means Mattel should take pride and care in each product from this line. The poor screening on the Lara sculpt and the white shirt having an unavoidable hole, fresh out the box, is why I only gave this product three stars. Both are pretty unacceptable and avoidable, in my opinion. Maybe one day Mattel will bring back quality control they once had, and start listening to their customers again. I believe if they did, they would have a formula for re-founded success. All in all, You Create kits are cool, but be wary of the lack of quality control.
