Great Razor, but I Expected More for the Price

I've been using Norelco razors for many years, and this one provides one of the best shaves yet.
Pros:
-Long battery life. I typically shave every other day, so I can go about 2 weeks on a full charge.
-Close shave. This razor provides a close and comfortable shave without having to press down, however, I do feel that I have to go over the same spots a couple of times to really get close. I have less irritation with this razor than I have had with previous ones.
-Lightweight
-Travel lock
-Option to use "wet" with shaving cream is nice.
-Easy to clean
Cons:
-Feels flimsy. It is a well-build razor, but it does feel like it could break easily. I'm afraid to drop it or bang it against anything because I'm afraid it will be damaged beyond repair.
-Taking off and putting on razor head attachment can be difficult. In order to push the right buttons to make the razor attachment come off you have to kind of position your hand and fingers in a weird way. It takes some getting used to. It's also tricky to figure out how to align the attachment when putting it back on.
-Charger. While the battery does last a long time, I find that the charger is difficult to travel with. It is large and seems like it could break easily.
-Included razor pouch/case is cheap and soft, and will not protect razor well.
Overall, it's a great razor, but for the cost, I expect a nicer razor case and a little more durability.

Short charging time is nice, and charge lasts a long time. Good thing. It takes about 3+ minutes to get a halfway decent shave.

I have been using Philips Norelco electric razors for the past 15yrs. I shave in the shower with a plastic mirror and this is by far the sorriest excuse for a wet and dry razor I have ever experienced. I thought for awhile it may be the result of changing from one electric razor to another, and my face would adapt but after trying to use it for several months it only gets worse. This is while using the Neutrogena shave cream recommended and I continued to use. It will not shave my face with any degree of closeness. I still have my old HS8420 ( the one with the Nivea dispenser) and although the dispenser has quit working, I can get a closer shave using soap or shampoo than I have ever received with this new one. I need an answer to my dilemma. If you check your records you will see this isn't my first review and I am not dissatisfied all the time. If Philips does not make this right, I will discontinue using any of their products and maybe even go back to a straight razor. I have been using Philips products for as long as I can remember, but this is unacceptable. You obviously have my e-mail to contact me. I had intentions of writing you before this review request but did not take the time. Now you have my request, and I am waiting for a response. If this gets me nowhere, I will try another option. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Pros: quick long lasting charge
Cons: will not shave my face with any sort of lubricant., my wife even hates it!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear about your experience with our Philips SensoTouch 2D Shaver.

You may adapt the below given steps for best shaving technique and get good results.

• Move the shaving heads over the skin, making both straight and circular movements.
• Your skin may need 2-3 weeks to get accustomed to this Philips system.
• To prevent damage, put the protection cap on the shaver after use.

It is recommended to take into account an adaptation period of 3 weeks, during which you should shave regularly (at least 3 times per week) to allow your hair and skin to adapt to the new shaver.

During this period, use your new electric shaver exclusively and do not alternate shaving methods; alternating shaving methods makes it more difficult to adapt to the new shaving system.

If the problem still persists, we would request you to contact our Consumer Care team on: http://philips.to/1lvKHwx under the Men's Grooming / Norelco section and our representative with expertise in handling this product will be happy to help you. Thanks.

Best electric shaver yet!

I have been using Norelco shavers since 1980!
long story short, this is the most comfortable shaver yet!! It will shave razor close, w/shaving cream or w/electric shave lotion.
The secret is to have some patience shaving, not be in a hurry and the shave will be superb!!!
This is my fourth electric shaver and this one shave's closer, and w/no irritation!
My brother which always shave's w/razor blades w/skin irritation, tried this shaver.
He used it for several weeks w/ no skin irritation, even when I told him that he needed a break in period!!
Give this razor a try, and do not be in a hurry, and the results will amaze you!
Pros: most comfortable electric shaver
Cons: none so far

purchased this higher end razor after many years using norelco without problems.however with this razor less than six months it takes at least 4 times longer to get a decent shave. in my opinion not being able to properly clean shaver blades (sealed)??.i have followed instructions on cleaning head by running water on it from the faucet after use.replacing 2 or 3 cuttingreplacement heads yearly is not for me.i think this is is a poor design (for cleaning) and should be re considered.
Pros: quickly recharges
Cons: blades dull rapidly

Mistake to have separate trimmer head

Big pain to change the trimmer head, I have used Norelco for 45 years but will not purchase another one w/o trimmer head built in.
Also I travel a lot for sales it is ridiculous the have to pack the stand to charge your razor.
Pros: powerful, fits contour of face well
Cons: separate trimmer head, must use base to charge

Disappointed in closeness of shave. Not sure about new head being one piece. If had not used I would return shaver.

As mentioned above shave is not as good as previous shaves of same brand. In fact this is the only brand shaver I have ever used in 30 plus years. But this may be the last I purchase. The self cleaning feature is the only plus to the shaver. I wish I kept my old one but was given $35 from the store where purchased. Unfortunately I feel stuck with little recourse other then responding to your questionnaire. I thought about returning but unsure if used I could get a refund. I am really disappointed in the shaver.
Pros: self cleaning, none
Cons: poor shaving quality, not worth money it cost, the head not very flexible it feels fixed

Battery life is amazing

I have had 2 months of smooth, comfortable shaves on only the initial, first charge. I keep wondering how much longer can it keep running before the next charge.
I like the options of using lather, warm water, pre-shave or just a dry shave. I've tried them all & each shave was remarkably close & smooth.
Pros: have used norelco razors for 43 years
Cons: none

A great razor, but if you travel a lot look for a different Philips razor design!

In terms of pure shaving performance the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 1160X is probably the best razar I ever used, but the fun stops when you travel a lot and space in your backpack or roll-on is at a premium. The inability to plug the charging cable directly into the shaver and the requirement to drag a cumbersomely formed charging stand along creates a real disadvantage. While the separate trimmer which comes with the 1160X is fairly compact, it is just one more part that can get lost.
In summary
- if your 1160X stays mainly at home, it is a great buy!
- if you travel a lot like me, you are better off buying a Philips Norelco Speed XL or something similar.
Pros: outstanding and very close shaving performance
Cons: cumbersome charging system
