42083 Chiron

An excellent model, the new gearbox is superb, it's a shame it isn't more visible. The instructions are very clear and the parts are easy to fit. It's a shame the engine area doesn't open up as the engine is almost totally hidden in the finished model. Superb detail, the luggage bag is better than the one in the Porsche. A great companion model to the Porsche.

Most challenging Lego set ever built
on June 6, 2018

I collect Lego Technic sets since I was a kid but recently I decided to buy only licensed Technic sets due to their added value. I love to see Lego making 1:8 scale models which provides great level of details, features and a more realistic appearance. Honestly, this one has just been released but I can't wait to see (and buy) the next one (Koenigsegg Regera / Agera RS perhaps?! I would love to see that!!!)
Anyway, It took me about 14 hours to put this model together, I find myself looking into every aspect and detail over and over. The AWD and transmission system is simply awesome. I love to see each part of it and understand how the system will work when done.
My only suggestion to Lego designers is to provide specific stickers already perfectly placed on the bricks (cluster panel, rock panels, doors, etc) so they all align flawlessly.

Great product

Just received this today. This is the definitive Lego product. For starters, the presentation (packaging, booklet) is over the top excellent. The components appear to have been packaged in a very user friendly way. Seeing this product motivated me to buy the Porsche set that was released last year. Hopefully this will be a continuing series highlighting the worlds top performance cars. An Audi RS series? Mercedes AMG? BMW ‘M’ model? Lego......bring it! Now, excuse me while I start the actual build.

Very incredible set! So amazed at how many working parts are in this car! Everything from the unique rims to the working w-16 motor and shifting gearbox! The fully functioning awd with real front and rear differentials is a jaw dropping engineering feat! Just add an opening hood amd more visible motor and ill be happy!

Fantastic Set

I love the real Chiron as it is a marvel of engineering. From the quality of the internals to the performance figures, it is an all around mental machine. When LEGO announced this build then I was very excited to pick one up and build the largest Technic set yet. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the joy it gave me to build all 3,599 pieces. My only critique is for LEGO who hasn't produced more of these technic level cars.

Best Lego build ever
on July 29, 2018

Don't let the price scare you: this set is expensive, but worth it. No, I'm not getting paid to write this. I am just seriously impressed by this set.
Don't let the build time scare you either: it took me five days in total to finish the build, but obviously I did other things, too. I know, crazy isn't it that there is life outside of Lego? (And no, I'm not getting paid to say that either.)
Let me explain.
This is a challenging build, but designed and constructed with such an attention to detail that it was an utter joy. First of all, the packaging. Inside the box you have six separate boxes. Inside the boxes are numbered plastic bags. What this means is that you can build the Bugatti in separate sequences. Also, there is no confusion as to where the required parts are, as the bags are numbered sequentially. This is all clearly marked in the building instructions. You begin with box one, bags marked one, and move on.
This takes the irritation of searching for the parts out of the equation, while keeping the challenge of the build itself high. It's also pedagogic, as you have eleven instances of having accomplished something before you reach the final phase.
And the packaging itself... just beautiful. And I love the fact that when you open the box you are met with the front of the Chiron, and once the build is complete and the empty boxes are back inside the main box, it's the rear of the Chiron that is on display. Genius.
All in all this set just blew me away. After the Porsche 911 GT3 I thought there was no way I could feel as excited about a Lego set, but I was wrong. Like many of the others, I can't wait for the next one.

All Consuming!

I opened the vast box as soon as it arrived, after taking it out of two other boxes. (It arrived safely.) What a sight! The packaging is beautiful, with 5 of the 6 Building Boxes carrying an image of the front of a Bugatti Chiron. The 6th box was showing off the lovely wheels.
With so many pieces, apparently 3,599, the instructions came in two substantial books.
Well, I started at the beginning. After 32 hours, spread over 3 days, I finished. I couldn't see any reason to do anything else.
Building the gearbox was a major highlight. It's so complicated with it's sequential shifting of 8 gears and 4 wheel drive. Unfortunately, once the build is over, it can't be seen. However, I built it, so I know! You can take a peek at my uploaded image. Please excuse the rotation.
About half of the time was spent building the mechanicals, then there was adding all of that bodywork.
The build was a great challenge and the reward is amazing. Who knew that 3,599 LEGO parts weighs in at 2.9kg :)
