17qt Presto Precise Digital canner

I have been using the 17qt Presto Precise digital canner this season to can various items, both water bath and pressure canning. I also have the 12qt and love it!
I have to say this canner is excellent for me. Today was 13 pints of potatoes that are currently cooling. I have done peaches, blackberry jam, tomato sauce, tomato juice, tomatoes, salsas, pickled peppers, green beans, various meats, and potatoes among other things and have had great success with this canner. I do tighten my rings a bit more than with stovetop canning and have had very very few seal failures.
As with the smaller size presto digital canner, the 17qt also does not release steam the whole time it is pressure canning. That is such a blessing on hot & humid days!!
The Presto Precise digital canners have excellent instructions with them that walk you through each step of the process, rather it be waterbath or pressure canning.
In addition I like that the Presto Precise digital canners meet the requirements for processing and procedures set by the USDA for properly and safely home canning.
Knowing that every time I use the canner to pressure can meat or vegetables it is definitely reaching at least 240⁰ to kill pathogens and make the food safe to consume is important to me. And Presto Precise digital canners eliminate this worry when I am using them while following tested safe recipes.
For ease of use, I can't imagine an easier to use canner. It doesn't need "babysitting" to keep pressure where it needs to be by constantly watching the heat source since the canner monitors the temperature itself! No more watching gauges constantly or listening for the need to adjust if a weighted one rattles/jiggles to fast or to slow. Instead just push buttons a few times and let the Presto Precise digital canner do it's thing!! It even tells you when to put the regulator on!
So, to conclude, excellent canner for me. I have had no issues. I have both waterbath and pressure canned quarts, pints, and half pints of food with no issues. Yes, the 17qt allows you to waterbath quarts also in addition to the smaller sizes!!
So if you are looking for a quality electric canner, and want one that is dependable, easy to use, and meets USDA requirements and procedures, go with the Presto Precise digital canner.

An awesome canner

First I want to thank Preso for making an awesome product. I have 2 12 quarts and now this 17 quart and love them all. I've done potatoes, chickpeas and a few other things and they came out perfect. I love that I can now double stack wide mouth pints I just wish you could do double stack regular pints also. I think the only worry I have is the weight being loose and someone losing it and having to wait for a replacement.
Water bathing is really nice I'm now able to water bath quarts and that is awesome. The only negative I've found is it's really big and heavy when filled with water so a bit harder to empty and I have to scoop it out to get rid of the water. I wish you could of figured out how to add a steam canning feature but all in all its a great product.
So anyone still undecided about buying one of these electric pressure canners do, you won't regret it.

17 qt PPDC

I've had my 17 qt PPDC now for a couple weeks.
I thought I'd share my thoughts, as others have, for anyone wondering about getting it.
It's stainless on the outside vs black stainless. Either is fine in my kitchen but I like the black stainless more.
It's big for sure, taller and heavier... it's not too heavy for me to pick up, but almost too tall to go under my cabinets that are above my counter.
I've done pickles, peaches, tomato soup in quarts, waterbathed, perfection and all sealed.
Now for the redesigns, personally I love the new regulator that doesn't snap on since I never left mine on anyway. The rack in the lid is gone that held the seal, I like that because I am always bumping the rack in the 12qt. The stainless rack inside is lovely. The cord is longer, I love that. The beep on my new one is in a different key than my old one, but not any louder that I can tell.

It doesn't seem to take any longer to heat up, but the start of boiling and pressure canning does, which makes sense given the amount of space and liquid.
I love it, almost as much as I thought I would, I just can't find enough stuff to WB in quarts.
I'm looking forward to double stacking in PC mode.
I have squatty pints that I do soup in and I'm excited to PC those double stacked.
I hope Presto continues to make awesome products like the PPDC.

An AMAZING game changer!!

I had the 22 quart first and decided I needed the big guy! I ran over 300 jars through my 12 quart and I have run over 150 through the 17 quart and I cannot use a stove top canner because I have glass top stoves and their electric so I can’t keep setting heat or pressure and this is absolutely a game changer and amazing!

After much deliberation about purchasing the 12 qt model, I ended up purchasing the Carey/Nesco canner. I just couldn't get past the price point on the Presto for an unknown entity. While I love my Carey/Nesco, the new Presto 17 qt caught my attention. It went on sale at a nearby store so I decided to take the plunge! It has the capacity to stack wide mouth pints which I LOVE!! More preserving at a time sealed the deal for me! I still have my ginormous stovetop canners, however, since we moved, the cooktop has been questionable to say the least and I can't trust it to maintain an even temperature. This Presto canner has solved my problems!! It still only cans 5 quarts, however, since it's just the two of us now (not 5) I usually only can in pints and half pints. I love being able to start the canner, walk away and let the beeps keep me aware of its progress. I highly recommend!

Works as an extra set of hands

Every busy mom always says they can use an extra set of hands. Well with this presto canner I can set it and forget it. I fell in love with my 12 quart electric canner and kept thinking, "wish there was a bigger one." Now I run both get twice as much done and keep on schedule with daily chores. Only suggestions is can't wait till you make a double stacker 30 plus quart. That would help out with garden harvest time. Still have to pull out the cook top canners for that time of year for their stacking ability. Keep up the great work. Most Sincerely a happy Canning Mom

So Versatile and Easy To Use

I love my 17 qt. Presto canner even more than I love my 12 qt. although I use them both. Love being able to stack pints now and to be able to water-bath quarts in it. The new front of the lid location of the regulator is such a blessing for me because I'm short and don't have to get on a step stool to handle it like I have to with the 12 qt. It makes canning so much easier and safer. Love it! Definitely a *****+
