If you run at high CPU load (with the turbo boost engaged) for more than a short period of time, it gets very hot, and crashes within a couple of hours (not clear if it's crashing due to temps, or simply high utilization).
Throttling the CPU back to <= 99% avoids crashing, but processor is much slower without the turbo boost active.
Shouldn't be happening with a brand new machine. Very disappointed.
This z2 came with Windows Pro 11, which I'm familiar with, and more comfortable setting up to run as a remote workstation/server, which I can access using my laptop 24/7 from anywhere. Although I considered the Nvidia Spark or equivalent, I landed on the windows version that can be configured to run local LLMs in a Linux environment. Although I use online and desktop AI tools, my intention is to build a strong local stack, and this unit has the capacity to run larger parameter models. I've been running for a few weeks as a remote server and it's been working great. I'm happy with my purchase so far and intend to expand with LLMs soon.
