Dead within 15 seconds

Bought this drill to poke four 1/2” holes into some headers for fishing down some switches. Let the smoke out on the first hole within 15 seconds, only going through one 2x4 (sideways, no less) and now it is completely dead. It has been out of the box less than ten minutes. I’m a Dewalt fan through and through and figured some of the reviews were overly critical. They’re not, this tool is absolutely not worth the effort. Super disappointed, even moreso that there is not a brushless option.

Purchased 3 weeks ago from lowe, drilled 3 holes in dimensional pine lumber, drill burned up on third hole. I have read other reviews of this happening. I have owned dewalt cordless since the 14.4volt....very disappointing to have this happen.

I bought this tool in January and after light service i.e. turning screws, the rings holding the chuck came off. I've used this tool for a total of maybe 1.5 hours. Lame.

Compact and lots of torque

Purchased this to drill holes through the top plate of a wall from above. Was able to drop a 1-3/8" auger through the two 2-bys without any trouble at all. Have used a number of times through studs in tight places, works great. The head design is nice and very compact. The drill isn't short, which I actually appreciate as it gives some leverage to hang onto in tight spots.

Lost to self destruction

I think we drilled maybe 20 holes with this. It runs hot it seems. There was a gap in usage. Almost finished a recent project when it suddenly lost power and started smoking. I was worried it would catch fire even minutes after removing the battery. I had it a few months but the date stamp is over a year. Not putting money into fixing it. Never had a dewalt piece fail so easily and soon. I have pieces nearly 20 years old that work. Other 20v drills from 2013 that have had heavy use and are great.

Finally bought one of these for those tight spaces. Worked on several occasions but just recently burnt itself out. Lasted less than a year.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is not a particularly strong drill, nor should it be expected to be. It is great for holes 1/2” and under and screws in tight places. I really like the built in 1/4” chuck within the chuck. My main use for it is driving pocket hole screws and this feature makes bit insertion really easy. I do wish it had a bit more power, but it performs how I expected it to when I purchased it so I can’t complain. I did burn out my first one drilling too large of a hole, but the warranty process was quick and easy to get it repaired.
Now that it is out of warranty, if it dies I would definitely buy one again.

Purchased this drill a few months ago for screws in a tight spot. For my purposes the drill head is not really much shorter than my impact drill and would have prefered a impact right angle drill to use with stubby bits or short impact driving bits, with a smaller head. Using it primarily for steel framing and rough carpentry in tight spots.
However power has been adaquate, not overwhelming. I cant say the drill isnt up to par, its more an issue of does it fit our needs.
Pros-Drives screws and drills small diamiter holes1/2" and under well.
Cons-Head is not much shorter than an impact head, so it really doesnt work well in all tight spots.
