I bought my fryer months ago and used it for the first time last month, my fried chicken came out perfect! Each time I use my fryer I am very pleased with the results.
I like the fryer and have used it several times. This was a upgrade for us as we had a smaller one for several years, which up passed on to a grandson. One of the features that attracted me about this fryer was the timer. The first unit I received had a faulty timer. (when set to less than 5 min. I would run for 2 min. and stop, no chime) It was exchanged. Same problem with the new unit. Good fryer forget the timer.
Have been using this unit to prepare corn dogs, krinkle-cut fries, tater-tots and even deep-fried tofu. The unit does a great job at preparing small quantities.
I use corn oil that has a smoke temperature of 440°F and it does a good job. I buy a one-gallon jug of oil at the grocery store and that fills the reservoir just to the MAX fill line.
The oil comes up to temperature fairly quickly, and maintains temperature when running multiple batches. (Note that I let the frozen products defrost for about 30 minuets before frying)
The lid is the best part of the design. you can remove the lid, load product into the basket, set the lid loosely on top of the basket, then drop the basket into the oil with the lid following down and that contains 100% of the splatter. There is virtually no mess.
It certainly doesn't take the amount of out a turkey fryer does, but it's certainly bigger that you average counter top fryer. It's actually big enough to make corn dogs, or chicken tenders, even onion rings. Without have to fry only one or two at a time. Just the right size for the kitchen.
I bought this about 4 months ago and it is one of the best small appliance purchases I have ever made. It is simple to use. Design keeps it from splattering all over counter and clean up is a breeze. Price was also what drew me to this model. Can't beat if for the money.
