Doesn't Work

I've tried to connect a 2019 16" MacBook Pro and a 2020 Mac Pro (both running macOS Catalina) to my 23" Cinema HD Display. The image would display for 3 seconds, then turn off for 7 seconds in a continuous loop. Unusable.

Works as expected

I went through three versions of the adapter. On the third try, Startech's very helpful tech support provided and pre-tested a needed firmware upgrade and all is now working very well.

Works great, with the correct firmware loaded

I have a monitor with a dual-link DVI interface that requires a 1920x1080 @ 120Hz signal. This adapter works just fine with my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), but only when the firmware which disables HDCP is loaded into the adapter.

I could only get low resolution, using this with my 2021 Macbook pro. Turns out there is "show all resolutions" button under Macos settings, and under that is the well-hidden full resolution selection. This solved it. It was a pleasure to have support pick up immediately

Doesn't seem to work with 2019+ Macs

I've tried two of these now to connect a 2019 16" MacBook Pro and a 2020 13" MacBook Pro (both running macOS Catalina) to my 23" Cinema HD Display. Neither adapter worked, despite StarTech's insistence it was the adapter I needed. On the 16" MBP, the image would display for 3 seconds, then turn off for 7 seconds in a continuous loop. On the 13" MBP, the image would display for about 2 seconds and then disappear, never to return. I don't know if it's a problem with the 2019+ laptops, or macOS Catalina, but this combination of hardware and software isn't working.
To their credit, StarTech sent me a 2nd display adapter to see if I just had a dud the first time around. But, sadly, there appears to be some incompatibilities that have surfaced with the product itself.

Works, but problems with sleep mode.

This adapter works OK for a YAMAKASI CATTLEAP 2703 (Korean monitor sold for cheap on Ebay around 2012/2013). The image is completely stable under its native 2560x1440 resolution. There is a problem though when the monitor exit the sleep mode. The image is completely garbled until I switch off and switch on the monitor. A relatively minor inconvenience (so the 4 stars).
