My current router was a dual-band D-link but it was 10 years old. I was noticing regular drop outs so I thought is was time to upgrade. The issue turned out to be my ISP who upgraded me from 350Meg to a 1Gig service at no cost to me. Because I have cameras and such that require 2.4 Gig networks I needed a router that would allow me to split up the tri-band mesh so that IoT devices are on the 2.4 band and my day-to-day devices are on the 5.0 band. Because I already had Ethernet run for my remote router I am not using the back haul band at this time. I set up my new router away from my home with the same SSIDs and credentials that my old router uses. On upgrade day, within 10 minutes I had 30 out of 34 devices set up - all connecting automatically. The other four needed to be pointed to the 2.4 SSID as they require 2.4 but supports 2.4/5.0 connections. Before upgrade I was getting benchmarks of 350Meg download (wifi), 400Meg wired, and 800Meg at the router. The coverage was not great so I needed a repeater. After the upgrade I am getting 550Meg on wifi, 650Meg wired and 1000Meg at the router. Over the past 4 weeks there has been no drop outs. Great coverage over my whole house. I am only using the main and remote routers. I had no issues updating the firmware. The router was a bit pricier than others but was worth it.
