Previously had a RT-N66R router that worked wonderfully for years. Decided to upgrade to the XT9 and within 6 months I needed to send it in for a repair because the node stopped working. Hoping this was a one-off issue.

Dear John12345,
We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.
All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, the node not working within 6 months if usage is a random problem.
If you have concern or need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.
Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
Regards,

Well designed, Easy to use. One step can be added in the install. This is back the config of the previous router, if it was another Asus. That saves a lot of trouble. The Quick-Start guide needs to be written by an English speaking person. The sequence of the steps has to be very logical.

Easy to setup and work as expected for new devices but doesn’t work with older 2.4ghz devices (generac generator). This was the whole point of setting up the mesh network. That is the reason I took off 1 star

This router is outstanding! We went from 8mbps to 880mbps by replacing our the old router. No lags or the dreaded spinning wheel anywhere in our home now. Super easy to set up the router and second node. I chose to do the backhaul ethernet connection. If you can do the backhaul option, it makes a huge difference in how much bandwidth is available. My home is 4000 sq ft. I have 35 devices running on the network. Two of us work from home. No worries about anything now.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The setup was straightforward and the mesh network exceeded my expectations in signal strength and coverage area. I was afraid I'd need three nodes to cover my house, which is not large (2000 sq. ft.) but has some thick walls and floors. The two-node set worked fine. I have one quibble: the included instructions stated that first I had to sync the two nodes before doing anything else. An on-line review said that when bought in a pair, they are pre-sync'd, and the on-line reviewer was correct. There should have been some mention of that in the documentation. The web interface is excellent, and far better than the conventional router it replaced (admittedly an old one).
I would recommend this to a friend!

After months of hearing complaints about our home networks slowness, I decided an upgrade was due. After comparing the options I chose ASUS XenWifi because of the wired or wireless backhaul options, number of WiFi network channels, and compatibility of various devices on our home network. I wanted some control of network option but since I’m not a network engineer, I didn’t want to have to fiddle with lots of settings just to get things running. I wanted the ability to leverage my home’s existing CAT5/6 wiring for the backhaul and ASUS support documentation gave me clear instructions on how to do that. The only detractor so far after ~3 months of use, I had to manually update the device list based on MAC addresses so I could see which devices are actually connected.
