Love it so far!

A great machine that does so much! But it does take some practice to get going, especially threading the loopers. The directions could be a little clearer in the manual, I relied on some YouTube videos for extra help. However, once I got it right, the stitches are beautiful, I did not need to adjust anything so far, and I am sure I will get years of use from it. I took off one star for the lack of clarity in the manual.

If it's not Singer, you don't have the best

My first serger was the Singer Quantum 5-thread, I purchased about 27 years ago. Still works like a charm. I decided to purchase a second serger and I must say, this was a great purchase. I had no doubt, because Singer has always been the best. My grandmother's was the Singer push pedal in the old days. The professional continues to live up to Singer's great name. The professional is beautiful in style, stitches, reliability and great work. I love this machine and although it is not a self threader, the threading system is far easier than my Quantum, but now I have two great sergers that will last me a lifetime. I just love the cover stitch feature. No more doing cover stitches the old fashion way again. I'm a proud brand loyal user of Singer products and always will be.

Sorry it took so long to write this review but this "serger" is a bit more complicated than any of the other sergers I have owned. Unlike my husband, who reads the instructions after he puts something together, I took the time to read the supplied hard copy Instruction Book before I even fired up the machine.
I was surprised by how heavy the machine is and I'm glad that the carry handle is so sturdy.
I appreciate that the machine was already set up for the Triple Cover Stitch. This setup made it very easy to move on to the Double Chain Stitch settings. The Double Chain Stitch setting had a lot to do with why I purchased the 14T968DC. I quilt on a longarm frame and often have to add a fabric skirting to my backing to be able to have the buffer I need to easily place the section to be quilted in the right area. For years I have been basting these fabric extensions and then pulling threads to remove the skirts after I finish quilting. Now I can use the Chain Stitch to attach the skirting and easily pull the lower looper thread to quickly remove the stitching and get on to binding the finished project. I have not used all the stitches yet but I do not see a problem as long as I keep the Instruction Book by my side. My next project will be to edge some of my old wash cloths that will become cleaning rags.

I started with Singer's more basic serger but passed it on to a friend when I found this machine. I love that it does a cover stitch. There's a learning curve but so worth the time. It does a beautiful job.

In love with this machine

I ordered my Professional 5 about a year ago and have been loving it. I’ve never had a serger or coverstich machine before so in the beginning I struggled to thread it. But then I realized there are 2 leavers that thread the lower loopers when you get to the last step of threading. I couldn‘t tell from youtube videos online that that is what they were doing, I thought they were just quick at getting that last bit threaded. Anyway, I hope this helps anyone wanting to get a coverstitch/serger. I think this machine is so fantastic and has been so incredibly easy to use, even though I’m still learning.

It works great, and it is hardworking

After much agony and research, I upgraded from a brother 1034d to the singer pro 5, and I love it. It sews beautifully, and I love having the coverstitch for active wear. Your trade-off for the low price is threading. I wouldn't lie, it is difficult, especially when you are just getting started. Especially when you are still getting comfortable threading, just remove threads and redo it whenever you have a problem. Eventually, you will be able to see the threading problems and fix them. Now that I've had it awhile, it goes smoothly.

Great Combo Machine!

I love my Stylist™ 14SH764 Serger, so when it was time to purchase a Cover Stitch machine, I originally looked at dedicated machines offered by other brands, but I came back to Singer and decided to purchase this combo machine. I have been using it for the past 2 months and I love it! It is a solidly built machine that is surprisingly quiet and comes with lots of accessories! Threading of course, takes some practice but is really quite simple and I love having all the stitch options. The DVD workbook is fab, and I have
printed and prepared a binder with stitch samples, something I highly recommend doing to really get to know your machine and take full advantage of all the things this machine can do!
One criticism is that in the manual, it does not give instructions on how to remove the fabric when finishing up a run of cover stitch. As you cannot chain off as you would while serging, this was rather confounding for me until I did some research on-line. The manual addresses the inability to chain off, but is followed by a blank section without text so I suspect this is an error in the printed manual. Another is the location of the presser foot lifter is rather awkward to access as it is located on the right side.
One feature that I love, is the auto tension dials. They give the ability to fine tune for fabric extremes, but for the most part I have rarely had to adjust them. Another is the cuttings collector...No more serger fallout!
Originally my plan was to sell my other serger but as I use the serger and cover stitches so often on the same projects, I have held onto it as I've been using this machine as a dedicated cover stitch machine that offers a great backup serger.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase!
