I bought my first pair of these binoculars a year ago. I use them for bird watching and find that 8X is perfect. I like that I don't have to worry if it rains or if they get dropped. The sport focus makes it easy to get a look at a bird that may be gone in seconds. A quick eyepiece adjustment allows closer viewing. I just ordered another pair to keep in my car. I like these better than my Pentax bins.

I purchased my Steiner's in 1993 through the military exchange store where I was stationed at the time. Rather than the MM830 Military/Marine they are the "Hunter" version and are stamped "Made in West Germany". The Berlin Wall was still dividing the city. None the less, my vintage binocs seem similar in appearance. In over 23 years I have used these binoculars regularly for hunting and bird watching in all weather conditions and they have not disappointed. The individual eye lens focus feature versus the center focus system makes for a very rigid frame free of any hint of nightmare divergence problems. This robust system is difficult to find in other brands, thus deserving of the "Military" designation. The clarity is such that I can easily distinguish two of Jupiter's moons at only 8 power. My only markdown is for flaring when direct sunlight enters a tube which washes out the image markedly. You can spend much more for a "big 3" brand but any slight improvement would be disproportionate to the money spent. Durable and a good value.

I bought these roughly 22yrs ago. They broke internally this past summer (2016). I sent them in for repairs. They were GREAT TO DEAL WITH!! When I got them back I was SHOCKED to find a brand new pair in the box. Outstanding customer service!! I will recommend to everyone.
