After the first use the inner lid does not stay sealed and if it tips over the crockpot will leak. I've had soup in my lunch pail more than once.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We recommend removing the inner lid while it is warming, and only using it to transport your food. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this crockpot warmer as a gift. It’s the best gift ever. It keeps your food hot - not like warm - it does not dry out your food. Great for left overs of any kind - rice, meat, veggies, soup, spaghetti, etc. just plug it in at your desk and lunch is hot and ready in a couple hours.

I recently purchased the Crock-Pot food warmer. Its a great item and I love how I can bring food to work and it heats it up. My one issue with this is that the food container lid does not stay on very well. I double bag the food container so it doesn't leak in transit. As soon as it starts heating up the plastic inner lid pops off and doesn't stay securely closed. I have spilled the food contents a few times because of this. That would be my one and only critique and suggest it be worked on.

Please note that it is normal for the lid to lift up during cooking to allow steam to escape. We do not advise filling the container more than 3/4 of the way full for best results.

It's lightweight and super convenient. It takes a while to warm up so give it some time and don't expect it to warm up your food right away. I also use it to melt chocolate for my desserts and I love it!

I have mine at work (a school). I have 2 inserts, one I bring back and forth, the other I leave in my room, with a can of soup, just in case I need something quick. If I'm eating leftovers (the portion size is bigger than you would think), it needs maybe an hour to heat up, HOT enough that you need to let it cool down a bit! Soup heats up quicker than that. There is more than enough space for a large can of soup. Sometimes I even bring my breakfast to heat up in my second container. No one can smell while heating, which is different than microwaving. This makes a big difference in a classroom. The base unit gets a bit warm, but nothing that can cause injury. I keep it under my desk. The insert washes easily. This crockpot makes lunch at school very convenient.

I wanted to buy this and kept putting if off because it was a little pricey for me. Then I got a special to get 3 of them so I finally bought one. I LOVE this. I bring leftovers or frozen meals that I defrost in the fridge overnight and put in and plug in at work and they are hot at lunch time. One of my favorite purchases ever.
