This could be the difference between life and death. Haven't used the sos but the text and email work as advertised. I feel great having this with me in the back country. Just get this or something like it if you doink around in the wild.

I'm a huge proponent of planning and being self-sufficient in the backcountry but having a solid connection to help if things go sideways is really important. There's been times where I've gotten stuck and needed to let my emergency contact know I'm running late. I use this year round from overlanding and backpacking trips to having in the car in the winter when we're driving to the ski resorts as there's areas where there's no cell service. I LOVE the new version of the Mini. The 2nd iteration takes what Garming succeeded at in the 1st and makes it better. The processor is snappier, it has a breadcrumb feature and takes USB-C as a charger (finally, I'm slowly moving all my electronics to the new standard). I recommend this product for people who like to hike a few times a year to people who work in the outdoor industry. Happy to be able to carry this with me on my adventures and know help isn't too far away.

Great investment if you like friends and family to keep an eye on you while in rural areas. I use it in my plane and it tracks my locations and allows me to text at altitudes with no cellular connection to keep in contact during long flights. They also have a great option to be able to only have it activated during months you actually use it and don't have to keep paying for the same subscription during winter months where it doesn't get used.

Easy to use, the battery lasts long, only downfall is the subscription part can be spendy but cheap if it saves your life!

I love this for when I'm hiking & backpacking. It works well and is easy to use. Very beginner friendly, just test it out before your trip. Also used it during a 2 week trip to big bend when I had zero service at several camp grounds. Worked well to stay in touch with my partner & keep an eye on the weather (with the expedition plan). Would def recommend for anyone who likes going places where cell service is nonexistent!

Great GPS device for tracking and SOS

Several friends recommended this device, and after purchasing and using on my first trip, I've got to agree. There were multiple levels of subscription, and I chose the one that allowed for included 10m tracking. It paired up well with some mapping services as well as it's own shareable map link. I was able to turn on the device at the beginning of my paragliding day and share my location with family and home and friends flying with me on site. I've used a spot in the past, and this feels like the better option in both form and function.

Easy to use once paired with a phone, used it to communicate with friends and family when off grid. Fortunately have never needed it in a survival or emergency situation.

Incredible battery life. Great feature set, seamless integration with smartphone app, easy to use.
This is my first portable GPS and satellite communication device and when I was researching I was a little overwhelmed with all of the different features, but the user experience is great for the core things: intermittent (automatic) 10-minute tracking while you're out, sending messages, and marking waypoints / points of interest. Integration with the Garmin Explore smartphone app makes it easy to view topo data for your current position (if you've already downloaded the maps to your phone ahead of time) or to send custom messages. Exports of your activities and collections use the common gpx file format, which makes it easy to open them up in other apps like Gaia. And finally, your service plan allows you to create a "social" mapshare page that you can send to friends and family where they can view your current and previous activities, ping for your current location, and send and receive messages. Knowing that there's one link I can send to people that want to have peace of mind while I'm out touring is incredibly valuable.
I haven't tried the "track back" feature or weather forecasts yet, but the device is an amazing value and will be with me on every splitboard tour and backpacking trip in the future. Highly recommended.
