Get an extended warranty

In my opinion experience , these boxes die within a year. Best to buy from retailer where you can actually return the item when it dies.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good and cheap OTA recorder, with limitations

I bought this through BB marketplace and it arrived very quickly. Almost frighteningly so!
I plugged it in to my antenna and it found some extra over the air channels that my TV didn't find, probably because I put the unit in the attic next to the antenna. Things I found:
- It has a clunky user interface compared to phones and computers, but it gets the job done.
- It can record a show from the electronic programming guide, but that only shows one day's worth, so future recordings have to be manually entered.
- Some TV stations don't broadcast the correct time, and this thing sets its clock from the channel, so if nobody switches off Daylight Saving at the transmitter, you may get a recording that's off by an hour.
- A really important thing is storage. The recordings are large. You can compress them later on your computer, but you need a big drive to start with. A fast SD memory card will work but an SSD would be best. Mechanical drives tend to go to sleep and don't wake up fast enough.
- Use the device to format the storage as NTFS, not FAT. NTFS can handle much larger files, and if you want the Big Game® in its entirety, you'll get something that's 20 or 30 Gigs.
