I've lived for 5 years in a house with a broken range hood. Smoke, oil, stuff everywhere all the time. This is AMAZING. Yea it was hard to install, basically took 3 people, two to hold up each side and one person on their back on the stove doing a benchpress to get this into position. I had some difficulty due to the position of the tiles and yada yada. Anyway, took the advice of one of the other reviewers and removed the flap that ... I dunno, blocks air flow coming In when it's off maybe? My issue was all the junk falling down my pipe, the old one I removed apparently the flap got stuck down..(too late to care now right?) anyway, the air flow in this is amazing.I like to cook in my oven and turn this thing on full blast and watch the smoke go from the oven below up into the vents. No more oil On Top of the hood all the time, no more smoke in the house, no more HEAT from the oven going into the house, just crank this up and it sucks every problem away. Removing the flap also made it less loud, my vent was all bent up and poorly installed...so I had to tape a little; it's an old house. ANyway, this is great!
It was packed well and so a lot of trash to throw out. I almost could install it allow. I need my wife to help sit it in my homemade jacks while I screwed it in place. The controls are a little confusing, and I still don't have the time set correct. Overall it looks great and works well.
We really enjoy the new kitchen hood. Coming from a non vented microwave recirculating fan to this beast is night and day. The lights are bright and the controls are easy to use.Installation is pretty tough if you don?? have a 6??vent already installed out of the roof and you may need to remove your stove in order to have 2 people install the hood in the cabinetry. May need to hire a pro for a proper install.
Quality, excellent value, with a couple of shortcomings

Replaced OTR microwave, and couldn't be happier. Great air flow, reasonably quiet, and obvious quality construction, with a commercial grade filter/grease trap.Only 3 gripes, 1 major, 2 minor (in order):1-Really, really, REALLY need a mounting hole template, and preferably on heavy paper. This thing is heavy, and the mounting holes are difficult to access from below. Furthermore, the mounting plate on top is thin, so if the holes in the shelf or cabinet bottom need to be enlarged or elongated, there's a good chance the metal will bend in, releasing the relatively small head screws and washers. I almost dropped it during installation because of this. Ended up using fender washers (which needed to be trimmed to clear the motor mounts in the back.... yuck!)2-Turning on the fan or lights requires turning on the unit first. That's 1 extra unnecessary step, IMO.3-Light dimming, or at least 2 levels of brightness would have been a great feature. The unit has only been in use for couple of months, but I have confidence in the apparent durability. In spite of the above, I gave the product 5 stars because I consider the quality and value to be overriding.
