Nice looking, stylish watch with poor battery life

I traded-in my Watch 5 Pro, in order to update my technology. The Watch 8 Classic is very stylish and I am pleased with the look. It shares many apps with the 5 Pro and adds quite a few more. Sadly, the battery life pales by comparison.
I was in the practice of charging my Watch 5 Pro daily, when I showered. Even if it was a quick 20-30 minutes, the watch never died and I never saw the battery level go very low, even at times when it may have been a bit longer time between charges. It was something I never needed to be concious of, since there was always plently of reserve power. Not so with this watch. Twice, in the several days since I've owned it, it has gone down to near zero and switched to battery saver mode until I could get to a charger. I have had to change my daily routine and now, when I'm working on my pc for a few hours, I plug it in just to keep the charge level up.
That is my biggest complaint. I love the extra button that I can program to initiate an action. I have it set so that I can press it when I start my daily 1.5 mile walk on my treadmill and it provides a much better reading of my steps and my heart rate. The one thing that annoys me is (and note I am in my late 70s) that when I walk on my treadmill, I have a tendancy to grip the safety bar in order to be comfortable with my balance. If my watch arm is not down by my side (swinging) as I walk, the watch fails to calculate my steps properly. For me, this is an issue, since when I increase my walking speed, I really feel the need to keep at least one hand on the safety bar. It makes me feel like the watch is measuring the arm swings, rather than the number of steps I take.
All in all, I am rating this watch as neutral. I've only had it for a couple of weeks now so perhaps I will find more features that I like.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Howdy Deno , Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us about your experience using the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic. Your constructive feedback allows us to make improvements with our product line. Samsung offers a 12-month warranty on your device for manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. We also offer Samsung Care+ which can be added to eligible devices. It's similar to an extended warranty plan and an insurance package combined that provides protection beyond the standard manufacturer's warranty. It could cover events like accidental damage, mechanical breakdowns, and potentially theft and loss. Samsung Care+ offers you the ultimate peace of mind when it comes to protecting your investment. The battery life on the Galaxy Watch8 Classic varies depending on your usage. With a 445mAh battery, it offers up to 30 hours of use on Always on Display (AOD) mode. If you're experiencing less than optimal battery life, please take a moment to check out "Reduced battery life on your Samsung smart watch" to learn what factors, if any, may be impacting your device. Some typical causes for inaccurate step count include inactive arm movement, low activity intensity, or power-saving modes. The accuracy of the watch's step measurement can be affected by the following factors: *Make sure your watch and the Samsung Health app are using the latest software. Environmental and skin conditions may affect how well the steps are recorded. *Steps are not counted when there is no hand movement in the exercise. For example, steps may not be recorded when pushing a lawn mower or cart because your hands are not moving. The watch is intended to calculate real step counts while walking. *Walk naturally without looking at the watch or your shoulders, elbow and wrist being raised. When you walk looking at the watch, the accelerometer will not properly measure your steps taken, distance traveled, or even calories burned. *The step count may not increase immediately when walking or exercising due to the step count algorithm. When the algorithm detects 10 continuous steps, the algorithm starts to count your steps taken and updates the step count. *You may experience a brief delay before the Steps app displays your latest step count. There may also be a delay before the Goal pop-up window appears. *If you use the steps tracker while traveling by car or train, vibration may affect your step count. Please also take a look at, "Inaccurate steps on your Samsung smart watch" to help resolve your step count. If you would like to share additional feedback with us or if you would like any further assistance afterward, please let us know by reaching out to Samsung Support. We're always happy to listen and work toward a better experience for our customers. Thank you for being a faithful Samsung customer. - Debra

I think the Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm Black WiFi/Bluetooth looks excellent and was easy to set up, especially with how smoothly it connects to my phone. I also like the sleep monitor, vital, fitness and exercise features, and the tiles make them quick to access. That said, I feel battery life, accuracy, reliability, and overall value can be hit or miss depending on what matters most to me.
