Planter too shallow

I wrote a prior review when I gave this as a Father's Day gift for my son-in-law. He was quite pleased with the bird bath and planter but had not set it up yet. It is now up in the back yard and looks very attractive with its bronze coloring. The planter is not attached, however, and when I asked him why he said he could not find a plant with a shallow enough root system to grow in the planter. He was also concerned about how much light the plant would get under the bath vessel. If anyone has suggestions for the type of plant to use, I would appreciate them. Star deducted from original review because of this problem.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it! Easy assembly, I like the stakes to hold it in place. Hopefully the birds will enjoy it. I haven’t planted anything in the planter part, looks nice as it is. Also thanks for the suggestion of making sure you put the switch on the “ on “ position before assembling!
