Within about a month of very basic use making smoothies from steamed veggies the blender broke. I’m now facing a repair and really regret this purchase.

I bought this because I use my blender a lot for both dry and wet ingredients. I like to chop nuts, make flour, etc. However, in order to use it for dry ingredients, you have to purchase a dry blade for it. For the price, it should have come with it. I liked it but it didn't fully serve the needs of my lifestyle. I took it back and bought a cheaper brand that I could use for dry ingredients.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Extremely Underwhelming

I have been saving for a couple years to buy this blender and have now had this Vitamix for one week and tried it 5 times. 3 of the 5 times I had to remove all my contents and put everything in my old blender because this one was not working sufficiently. The 2 times it worked well was when I was blending soups that were very liquid-y. The quality of the blend was the same as if I had used my cheap immersion blender. There has been a smell of burning rubber each time because the blender does not latch into place on the base. Contents get stuck under the blades and are hard to get everything out and to clean. I plan to return this blender.

Hi! Sometimes the machine may emit a burning odor and/or stop temporarily because its thermal protector sensed that the machine was about to overheat. If this occurs, we recommend turning the power switch off for up to 45 minutes, allowing the machine to cool down or reset. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor. We have also included some general blending tips below for your reference. Check Your Speed When starting the machine, make sure the Variable Speed Dial is turned to 1(or, the ‘Stop’ position). Turn the machine on and turn the Variable Speed Dial from 1 to the highest speed your Vitamix has within five seconds. The Vitamix machine performs best on High speed to pulverize food and process thick mixtures.
Check Your Quantity When processing denser ingredients, like cooked potatoes, cooked rice, or cooked beans, this creates a heavier than normal load on the machine. You may want to consider reducing the food quantity placed in the container by half (depending on how much food you started with) as well as adding a bit of liquid.
Follow Order of Ingredients Place ingredients into the container in the order listed in your Vitamix recipe. If working with your own recipe, start with a base of liquid (water, juice, milk), followed by softer ingredients (tofu, yogurt), then juicier fruits and vegetables (grapes, cucumbers), firmer fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots), frozen ingredients (frozen berries), and finally ice. If you use protein powders, they should follow the ice.
Use the Tamper If ingredients are not freely circulating, the tamper can be used to improve the flow of food. While the machine is running and with the lid firmly in place, insert the tamper through the lid plug opening and begin working it in the four corners of the container. As the food travels around the side of the container, the tamper directs it right into the blades. If there is an air pocket around the blade, the tamper will release the air pocket and create a continuous flow of food through the blades.

I thought that this would be the solution to my ninja problems, but it's not much better. rocks all over the counter, smokes, stinks, and screetches. Maybe its all the power. It does get the job done, but after a lot of hard work.

It is important to remember that all full-size Vitamix blenders are equipped with either a 2 or 2.2 horsepower motor, which moves the blades in the container at a high speed in order to pulverize the ingredients completely. On occasion during blending, especially with thicker mixtures like hummus, frozen desserts and nut butters, you may experience some excess movement/vibration from the motor base on your countertop. This is a result of the machine trying to move the blades through such a dense recipe at the same high speeds.
When this happens, the best thing to do is to first make sure you have your blender on the highest speed setting featured on that unit. Next, place your hand firmly on the lid of your container to steady it while you use your tamper to work the ingredients through the blades. This will help to create an easier flow of the ingredients in the container, which will also help to lessen the vibration. Please keep in mind that certain ingredients and recipes are thick or denser in nature, and some movement while blending is normal.

We bought our Vitamix 5200 twelve (12!) years ago and it's still going strong. At one month past seven (7!) years we had a problem with the bearings in the container starting to leak. Even though we were just past the warranty, the company asked us to return the whole machine and then sent it back to us refurbished, with a brand new container. It's still running just fine. FYI, we make homemade almond milk using whole almonds 2-3 times a week. We're only here now to look at the newer designs. Let's just say, we are serious fans of Vitamix.

Subpar warranty

Just beware of the warranty, if your someone who depends on this unit for dietary reasons and it gives out they do not replace units at all. You will have to have your unit refurbished. And if they find that it was caused due to neglegence they won't fix it so at the price point it leaves a lot to be desired. I can buy 5 ninja blenders and they have an amazing warranty.

I bought my Vitamix 8 years ago and right after my 5 year warranty was up grease started coming out of the bottom of the container. this is way to expensive to only last 5 years.

We're sorry to hear this. This container is not dishwasher safe and will cause the seal to break down and allow the lubrication to leak out. Please call 1-800-848-2649 for further assistance.
This is my second Vitamix. The first was a refurb and the second was new. It is great for smoothies, and such, but it cannot handle Hummus, which we make a lot of. OMG, It shakes, smells of an electrical fire and will vibrate off of the counter top if not held in place. I called Vitamix and they gave me instructions for when making Hummus. It, still, does a very poor job.
Pros: Easy to use

Hummus is a dense recipe that requires the use of the tamper that came with your machine. Once you add your ingredients to the container, start the machine and turn it up to 10 quickly. As the unit runs at high speed, insert your tamper through the lid plug opening and press it into the recipe repeatedly. This will break up air pockets that can put a strain on your motor. With high speed and the tamper, your recipe with flow freely through the container and your cooling fans will prevent the machine from overheating.
