We have used ours regularly for over 20 years and it still works fine. Now I’m looking to see if there is a food processor attachment for it since our old food processor just started to disintegrate.
this is a new purchase of a few months. I am starting Dr Goldner's green smoothie protocol. she recommended this brand blender for power. so far, so good.
Pros: Speed of Service, Texture Quality, Easy to use, Power
This doesn’t work. It overheats for no reasons and I have to wait an hour to use again and it’s brand new.

Hi! Sometimes the machine may emit a burning odor and/or stop temporarily because its thermal protector sensed that the machine was about to overheat. If this occurs, we recommend turning the power switch off for up to 45 minutes, allowing the machine to cool down or reset. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor. We have also included some general blending tips below for your reference.
Check Your Speed When starting the machine, make sure the Variable Speed Dial is turned to 1(or, the ‘Stop’ position). Turn the machine on and turn the Variable Speed Dial from 1 to the highest speed your Vitamix has within five seconds. The Vitamix machine performs best on High speed to pulverize food and process thick mixtures.
Check Your Quantity When processing denser ingredients, like cooked potatoes, cooked rice, or cooked beans, this creates a heavier than normal load on the machine. You may want to consider reducing the food quantity placed in the container by half (depending on how much food you started with) as well as adding a bit of liquid.
Follow Order of Ingredients Place ingredients into the container in the order listed in your Vitamix recipe. If working with your own recipe, start with a base of liquid (water, juice, milk), followed by softer ingredients (tofu, yogurt), then juicier fruits and vegetables (grapes, cucumbers), firmer fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots), frozen ingredients (frozen berries), and finally ice. If you use protein powders, they should follow the ice.
Use the Tamper If ingredients are not freely circulating, the tamper can be used to improve the flow of food. While the machine is running and with the lid firmly in place, insert the tamper through the lid plug opening and begin working it in the four corners of the container. As the food travels around the side of the container, the tamper directs it right into the blades. If there is an air pocket around the blade, the tamper will release the air pocket and create a continuous flow of food through the blades.
My old 5200 was a champ! The new 5200 motors aren't up to par with the Vitamix brand that once was. New motor is light and allows the base to move around on the counter. New motor over heats easily. Disappointed I paid full retail for this new machine that isn't as good as my old one. Looking for a different company with higher quality standards.

Hi! We are sorry to hear of your experience. Please know that newer machines are more sensitive to overheating to protect the motor. The best way to prevent this is to take the machine up to its highest speed within the first 5 seconds of blending. This will give you the best blend, keep the motor cool and lessen any vibration you are experiencing.
I owned a 5000 model for over 20 years every day and it finally gave out on us. We bought this model because it had the 64 ounce container. We love it and would give it 5 stars but it is exceptionally loud. I've read that is becuase the motor is upgraded to a more powerful one but the trade off is noise.
I love having the new VitaMix. My old one was starting to falter after nearly 30 years! It still worked but was showing signs of its age.
Pros: Durability, Easy to use, Power

I bought my Vitamix 5200 back in 2011. Never had a problem with it, ever. It worked flawlessly for soups and veggie drinks and shredding my cheese, crushing my ice. even rough chopping my chicken and sausage when cooking (we like it small in our recipes). I was buying non vitamix blenders that I would get a few years out of. Low and behold, I went to a big box store, saw it, bought it, used it, and my husband said how much? I said it was 350..and he was like What the??? And I said you got your power tools, now I have mine...So we are in the market for a new one, ours has slowed down a bit, but my husband said, get the vitamix again. So I got the refurbished Explorian and hoping for same great results...
