WELL BUILT UNIT. FAN RUNS QUIETLY WITH AMPLE AIR FLOW. TWO HALOGENS PROVIDE JUST ENOUGH LIGHT TO COOK COMFORTABLY.

I would love this but...

I would love this but the fan blows downward and does not take smoke or odors out of the house

Important information for 9' ceiling installation

If your ceiling is 9' or higher, you will definitely need to buy the extension kit. I asked this question on the extension kit section and based on the information GE provided moved forward without. That was a mistake. Coming out of the box, when its assembled as instructed with 9' ceilings, the bottom of your hood would be 38" above the cooktop. Measure it out, it's pretty high.

Easy to Install

I ordered this unit online. There is a YouTube video that was a great help in completing the installation of the vent. However, the instructions were incomplete for venting the unit directly through the outside wall which was necessary in this two-story home. I had to call customer service to confirm that I was following a proper procedure. While the low fan setting is generally sufficient any setting on the fan greater than low is a bit loud. The down pointing lights are excellent.

Drips Oil and is noisy

We've had our vent hood in our new home for about 6 months. For the last 2 weeks, it has been dripping oil out of the fan assembly. We called GE and a service tech told us it was a design issue. There is only 2 of us, we don't fry foods often and we have never had an issue like this from any other vent hood. We have cleaned the filters multiple times and wiped down the blower assembly, but the oil keeps coming. This issue and the noisy blower and poorly designed column means that it is getting replaced. Called GE customer service and was on hold. I tried multiple times to utilize the call back feature, but it didn't work. After having our new GE dishwasher replaced and our new GE refrigerator serviced, we will never buy another GE appliance and I suggest that you do not either.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Motor went February 2022

The motor started squeaking and shuts down, this fan could have lasted much longer in my opinion. Service call opened.

Great product, but slopy installation hardware

Product looks great. The drywall anchors don't work the screws pull out. The screw holes for the duct covers do not line-up and I needed to drill new ones. Supplied duct covers don't reach a 9' ceiling so additional hardware is needed. For the price of the unit the assembly is sloppy.
