Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the new Avent Natural Response Nipples. We are sorry to hear of your upsetting experience and hope we can help improve things for you! The Philips Avent Natural Response Nipple only releases milk when your little one actively drinks, in the same way the breast does. When your baby pauses to swallow or breathe, the milk flow pauses too, while suckling allows the milk to flow easily. In this way your baby is in control and comfortable throughout the whole feed. Keep in mind that it can take a few attempts for your baby to adjust from a traditional nipple to the Natural Response Nipple and realize they can use the same pattern they use with breastfeeding when bottle feeding too. If you used the previous Natural nipple, your baby may need higher nipple flows with the Natural Response Nipple because they are used to more milk flowing quickly with less effort.

Baby refusing bottle with new nipple design
on February 1, 2022
Posted by: CKIP
My daughter was seamlessly switching between breast and bottle with the old style natural nipples since birth. Now that she is bottle fed only at 7 months, I bought a new set without realizing the nipples had changed. With the new design, she refuses the bottle altogether -- I've tried giving it to her for over a week and at different times with no success. When I switch to the old nipples, she drinks right away. The new bottles are more rigid and don't even feel like the old nipples. Very disappointed in the new design and even more disappointed that Philips doesn't even make the old nipples available for purchase at all. I wish they would at least offer the old style to purchase separately.

Hi,

Thanks for leaving a review regarding the new Avent Natural Response Nipples. We are sorry to hear that your daughter is still refusing the new design and can understand that this must be disappointing. The Natural Response Nipple has an innovative tip and opening which responds to the drinking motion of the baby’s tongue. This causes the slit to open and close, so milk is released only when baby is actively drinking, like at the breast. The flow rate of milk they get from the nipple is linked to how enthusiastically or steadily they drink as they develop. Enthusiastic drinkers use a strong suction and compression while drinking, resulting in greater milk flow, so they usually need a lower nipple flow from the Natural Response range (such as nipple number 1 or 2) to avoid overflow. Slow and steady drinkers are likely to prefer a higher nipple flow (such as nipple 4 or 5), to ensure enough milk flows, regardless of age. You can find useful information on this FAQ : https://www.usa.philips.com/c-f/XC000020708/tips-for-switching-from-our-previous-natural-bottle-range-to-our-new-natural-response-nipple

We hope your daughters experience with the new Natural Response Nipples will improve very soon! The fact that is similar to the breast make easier the transition of doing breast and bottle at the same time.

New nipples are garbage

Do not waste your money if you used the old nipple design. Baby can’t get milk from the new design. Why did you change what wasn’t broken?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to write a review. We're sorry to hear that your baby dislikes our new Natural Response nipples. The new design uses a compression mechanism that releases milk when your baby is actively drinking. This creates a seamless combination between bottle feeding and breastfeeding. If the flow is too low with the nipple, we recommend using one with a higher flow rate. Additionally, we recommend watching your little one’s cues to find the best nipple flow. Depending on whether your baby drinks enthusiastically or slow and steady, a different flow rate might be suitable. Keep in mind that it can take a few attempts before your baby can get used to the change and learn to use the drinking patterns from breastfeeding when drinking from a bottle. We hope this helps!

These work great for my preemie.

Prevents my preemie from getting choked up because of too much milk coming out at once. She does great with these and they really prevent reflux and gas issues.

Bring back the old nipples

Not a fan of the new nipples. Baby has to work harder to eat and that's not what we need for a baby that needs to gain weight. Let your customers choose if we want the natural response or free flow natural nipples. We've spent so much money on bottles and nipples so it's frustrating having found a brand we liked and trusted and now considering switching and having to start over. Hopefully these reviews are helpful so you can add back the old version.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here. We really appreciate your feedback on our new Natural Response line, and it's unfortunate to hear that it has not been the right fit for you and your baby. We understand that the new design is very different and thus can be difficult to get accustomed to. The idea behind it, however, is to mimic the feeling of a real nipple and be better for the baby because of it. In case you'd like us to provide you with some more guidance and/or see if we can locate the right nipple for you, we would be happy to assist you. For that, please feel free to get in touch via social media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.

Hope to speak to you soon!

Kind regards,

New nipple design is terrible

We started using the old style of the 0 nipple with my twins, when we moved up to the 1 and 2 of the “new and improved” design My babies sucked for 25 minutes to only get a half ounce. This new nipple design is awful. I invested so much money into these bottles for my first daughter and now my twins. I now have to find new bottles that my twins will drink from. That’s hundreds of dollars down the drain because Philips avents poor design. I used to recommend this bottle to everyone I know having babies and gift them for shower gifts, never again.

Hi,
Thank you for taking your time to write this review. We're sorry that it's this difficult for your twins to get the milk out with our new nipples.
Let's see how we can help you here. Indeed, if your babies were comfortable drinking form the old size 0, than size 2 from the new version should work just fine for them. However, as we don't need to explain to you, every child is different. This is why we suggest trying out size 3 the next time you'll be feeding them.

If this doesn't improve your experience, please reach out to us on Social Media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Philips ) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/philipscare). Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.

Baby won’t drink from the redesigned nipples
on December 28, 2021

I swore by these nipples and my son has loved them since day one (we were supplementing breastfeeding). He is now 7 months and needed to buy more size 3 (old design) nipples. They were impossible to find for a month or so. Then, they were brackets on the market, and it turns out they CHANGED the design. My son WILL NOT drink from the new nipples. We even bought bigger sizes to see if they changed the size scale, and it did not work. Now we only have 6 nipples he will use and it requires constant washing. Why fix what wasn’t broken???
