The inside of the cover under the soft (cheap feeling) material has some sort of cardboard or hard material. Thus the cover is not truly soft and flexible as I desired. It still stands straight in a partially opened position and gets in the way while the journal is open exactly as a hardcover journal cover would. I’m very disappointed in this journal!

Paper thickness is decent. Takes most gel pens I have been using (such as Tru Red Pentel Energel Metal tip 0.7) as well as my Tombow Dual Brush pens and Staedler Twin-tip handwriting pens without any severe bleed-through on the pages. One thing I would suggest is that it might be nice to have a pocket on the back cover to stash loose pages or notes but that's okay. Loving the notebook so far!

I purchased this notebook as logbook for a new automobile - I record fuel fill (gas mileage) and maintenance activities. I like the graph paper format which makes it easy to enter information in columns and I like its durable construction. It does not have a place to keep a pen or pencil - I wish it did if so it would have gotten 5-stars.
