Finally!

I have had absolutely no problems with this printer! In an age where printers seem to be made more and more cheaply by the year, this one breaks the mold. After buying a lemon of an Epson printer last week (two if you include the replacement they sent that also didn't work), I was feeling very frustrated. This HP OfficeJet I set up with ease and immediately started copying and printing to my hearts delight, with no paper jams or error messages. The network wireless was super easy to set up as well.
I have never left a review before, but I just had to this time.

Best Purchase Ever from HP

This is a quiet, fast, and feature rich workhorse. The e-All-in-One Printer is the best printer I have ever had. I'm impressed with the 2.4" color touch screen and the tracking it has for usages. I'm experimenting with two sided and color photos. There good but I think they can get better as I am using a paper not listed in the menu. I have not gotten APPS to work, I'll call customer service for that. PS, I loaded the software while the printer was initializing.

Wireless act needs a net

We purchased this unit to allow those with iPads or iPhones in the office to print content easily. The setup was difficult because the instructions were too simplistic and covered none of the issues one can easily find on the Internet with such peripherals. I could not even get it to work on the wifi network until I turned off the WPS setup feature of the router. It now works (but only intermittently) on the network but we still have to reboot the entire thing and/or the router frequently to get the iPads to recognize the printer or scanner. We may still have to resort to using the ad hoc mode and force users to detach from the wifi network and connect to the All-In-One printer each time they want to use it. The idea is cool and scanning especially would be a great feature but the technology has a long way to go before it is ready for real world use.

If you need the ability to scan, fax, and print photographs in color in addition to printing business documents rapidly, the OfficeJet Pro is the product for you.It is reliable, inexpensive to operate, and has a very quick time to print. Being able to print from smartphones, tablets and other devices via the Internet is also very helpful.

So far so good. The copy quality is excellent. The scanning (both pictures & documents) have been fine. I especially like the document feeder; and the legal size copy/scan mode. I tested the wireless printing via my iPhone and it worked without any problems. Anyone who needs to scan/print legal size docs should make sure you get the A910g or A910n.

I had a Photosmart printer and it got where it could not printer envoples and i think it was making too much noise and then it went out of warranty and the tech at HP were great help me at this point and the new printer got here in 2 days. But so far this is by far the best printer so far.
The manual is I would have to rate a B needs some improvement. The auto fax I only wish it had a button to turn it on but you can make two clicks on the control panel and it is set. Thank you HP

Great SOHO printer

So far has been very easy to use, with only a slight exception with the scanning. I've setup wirelessly to access it from all our home PCs, and the duplex printing has been great. Quiet machine. The scanning doesn't like to start from the printer, but works fine when initiated from the computer. The quality is excellent for both prints and scans. I've checked the ink levels, and even after a couple of weeks of use they are all still indicating full. I would definitely recommend this all-in-one for those of us who simply cannot afford a color laser equivalent.

Nice printer, so-so software

My initial review of the Officejet 8500 is quite positive. It was easy to set up. The power on calibration was automatic. The printer warned it might take 20 minutes, which it did, but did not require user intervention or monitoring during that time. The wireless set up was quick, although it did not work for me to enter and use the name of a hidden SSID. I had to unhide the SSID, establish the connection, and then hide the SSID again. It was not a big deal. Although the UI let me enter the SSID, it just did not work that way....
Wireless connections have worked well once connected. It seems well built although one has to be careful with the paper output tray. The flip up paper guard in front above the paper input tray flexes a bit. The print quality for color and for black and white looks good. The scan quality and features also seem good, but I have not used them much yet. I am hopeful that the print ink does not dry up if the printer is unused for a few weeks or months at a time, like a previous printer of mine from a different manufacturer a long time ago. That experience prompted me to go to a laser printer. I hope that newer printers and inks do not have that problem. Time will tell...
The print software UI is a bit confusing. There is no marking showing that the category names (like print and scan) are also links and take the user to more options for that category. The scan to computer option is one of those hidden ones. The documentation implied this printer supported scan to email but that option is not actually available on this particular model. The scan to network folder is a very nice feature, allowing one to scan documents to an always-on network device without having to turn on or use a computer.
The eprint center capability and email to printer are nice features although it is not clear why some eprint apps are not available for the 8500. The hp eprint center web site is sometimes painfully slow and sometimes down. When it is down, as it is while I am writing this review, an ETA of when it is expected to be available is missing but would be important for a business user, instead of a headline stating just "Portions of our site are currently unavailable. We thank you for your patience for the inconvenience."
In summary, the Officejet 8500 is a nice printer with nice features but sometimes confusing software set up, and the eprint capability has potential that is not fully realized yet..
