I have two of these and they're great. Currently have one supporting two computers, hard drives, a Eizo Monitor, & an Epson Scanner. The other is also supporting two computers.
I use this to back up my computer, monitor, router and storage drives at my computer in my cabin. We are prone to power loss in the winter and this gives me plenty of time to safely continue a download and then shut down the system with no loss of data. Happened just this last weekend during a rain storm. No problems. Worth every penny to me.
The 1st one arrived and emitted a burning smell when on. I tried the backup operation by unplugging it and made a fast clicking sound while the output voltage sagged badly. I got an RMA as DOA, and, after a few days, received a replacement. This one arrived with the case top retaining tabs almost all broken off and lying inside the box. It does, however, work. I am waiting to hear from Tripp Lite as to what they would like to do this time. The packaging is insufficient for the weight of the product. The styrofoam packaging was all broken up on both of them. If they were packed better they MAY survive. Of course, they're made in China. That probably won't change in the near future. I have another of the exact same model I purchased earlier, and it too arrived with the styrofoam smashed. It is undamaged and has been running for over 6 months now.
This works just great. I have my TV, Home Theater system, UVerse receiver and internet modem plugged into it and it shows a very low load. I had a storm come through a few months ago that blew out my TV and Uverse and had to replace it all. I feel more secure knowing that everything is protected. I didn't notice any smell at all that some others complained about. Also, mine worked perfectly when I first set it up and still does. I'm very happy!
My current purchase of the SmartPro LCD 120V 1500VA 900W Line-Interactive UPS AVR Tower LCD USB 10 Outlets is also my third purchase. The first I bought in August, 2013, the second in August, 2014. Both the older units are all still in service, no battery replacements, no disappointments, and no trouble. We have had at least one tropical storm, one lightning strike that cooked the power supply for my HVAC, and more than one power outage of over an hour because we live in a neighborhood with aging utility infrastructure. The units replaced various other lesser units that lasted three or four years and needed batteries, or just plain died. These have screens that allow me to read their health and (presumably) anticipate battery and function problems. I added the most recent unit to protect my home theater electronics. Each power fluctuation, flicker, or plain old outage, takes my whole system down. Sometimes everything figures out what it needs to do, but sometimes not. That requires me to spend time remembering and helping all the gadgets to renew their handshake. That isn't much fun. Enter the Tripp-lite SmartPro. I also know that my delicate electronics will last longer because of the steady stream of dressed and clean power. No spikes, brownouts, etc. I have always relied on Tripp-Lite for quality electrical solutions. This product extends the legend for me.
We recently moved to a more rural area that immediately stuck us with some fall brown-outs. I had never had a battery backup solution in place because we used to be in a skyrise building in downtown Minneapolis, that had generator backup power. We had never had a power failure. Now that we're in a suburban neighborhood, thunderstorms and winter storms have quickly made it clear that my equipment was at risk, so I started the hunt for a UPS. The budget was limited - I needed a good product at consumer pricing. The Tripplite, Smart Pro came just in time. The day after I hooked it up we experienced a major outage. It kicked in and did its job as expected. the power was out longer than the battery, so it gave me time to simply shut everything down normally. The unit is plug and play, no software to configure. So far, no complaints and I would recommend this product.
