Loud and Annoying
on September 30, 2025
Posted by: crt2025
We are now on our second one of these. The first one started making this loud clunking and then slamming noise. GE sent us a second one and this new one now makes a high pitch noise (it sounds like the emergency broadcast system noise) any time the pump turns on. For what you pay for these things are not very good quality.

Horrible Ice Maker
on October 3, 2025
Posted by: Chelsea2148
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Only had machine for a week, it would make one batch of ice then go into defrosting mode for hours. I ran a cleaning cycle several times, the issue remained. For the cost I am not going to wonder if it will make ice or not every day, so it was returned.

We are sorry that this Opal icemaker stayed in the defrosting mode for hours even after cleaning the unit. This is not normal operation, and we will be sure to notify our internal team regarding this issue.

Constantly Say Add Water
on October 11, 2025
Posted by: Sporty22

My ice machine constantly says add water when making ice. Water level is fine. I have to remove the filter and turn off ice machine and then turn it back on. If I put the filter back in it gives the same message “Add Water”. I paid a lot of $$ for this machine to be giving me this issue.

We want to help you with your opal. We recommend replacing the scale inhibiting filter or water filter (P4INKFILTR) of your unit. You can do so by following the 11 of the owner's manual here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--hPt8j2G2--/a656dd8264a1786411b2865c10956f3e46f3598f.pdf

If the issue persists, we recommend calling our Opal team at 1-877-959-8688.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My machine broke within 1.5 yrs despite impeccable maintenance. When I called for help they did nothing but read to me what I already read online. So disappointed and will never purchase or recommend again.

Drips water from ice bin
on October 16, 2025
Posted by: Sandbur
from Yeso, NM
The ice bin dribbles A LOT of water when you open the bin. I have to put a napkin on the plastic drip pan, just so it doesn't spillover before I get it wiped up. It is a pain to have to continually wipe up water.
Also, every 21 days I have to clean it. It is cumbersome to have to move it to the sink to drain and clean. It is a heavy machine. I assumed cleaning every 4 - 6 wks like my old ice maker.

During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water.

Also, it can be normal to clean and maintain your machine. This is due to the mineral build-up and constant ice production. The routine cleaning will help keep your Opal in top shape.

Reliability
on October 17, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had our maker 3 months. I have cleaned and descaled per instructions and this last time when descaling it went to add water during the cleaning cycle. It is not running vinegar through the ice maker. The pump is working the water line must be plugged. Looks like the cleaning process does not go through all the water lines and letting the vinegar set in the lines for 18 hours is not enough to descale. Ice maker no longer works and needs repaired. What is your return or repair policy?
